Hi all,
I had a peep at Google Earth and found it to be quite amazing.
The photography being done quite some time ago. When I found my street and panned around, I noticed a few changes. I wonder how often it will be updated?
Does anyone have any idea how the shots were taken ??
Cheers Rev's

Yes
They had a multi swivel camera set-up on the roof of a car and drove the streets. Not sure how many contractors there were, worldwide, but Google must be worth a few quid to pay them

Unless you've been under a rock this past week, you've likely heard about Google Maps new Street View feature. In a few select cities you can now view a street-level, panoramic photograph of the selected area--not exactly an original feature but novel nonetheless. The photos might only have been available for a few days now but folks are already loving, hating and complaining about them (check the link below for the story of a distressed, cat-owning privacy advocate). So how did they do it? It turns out that in some cities like New
York, Google licensed the panoramic photos from Immersive Media, a company that specializes in 360-degree videos. The folks at Immersive drive around special vehicles that are outfitted with an 11-camera device on the top of their hood. That's not the only way that Google is getting their photos, however: the company has allegedly been driving its own van, outfitted with higher-res cameras than those used by Immersive, around the Bay Area.
That's how they did it
All the best
Eric

Here is a similar style I was dabbling in around 5 years ago
360's click on the small pics
I have seen a few google cars around and as far as I can work out by looking at the vehicle and being in the inustry a few years back, It is done using a video camera looking at the sky with what is called a 360 lens attached....... Really all the lens is, is a silver cone upside down on the lens of the camera... Quite simple really
cood go on and on about it but am a little tired right now.... Although I have been getting emails from one of the mobs that have been doing it for years

Thanks for your reply extfilm
I am yet to see a google car driving around. But when I see a car driving around with an upside down cone on its roof, I can say - know what there up too.

Hey rev, it is a little bit more technical than just putting a cone on the top..... that was a simple explaination.......
Here is one.

Google Earth is indeed amazing !
No one will dispute that, just the sheer brilliance of it.
Down falls are that there are lots of areas are not updated regularly..
But I can live with that..
eg. around our Daughter's place, in Pakenham has not been updated for X number of years, as they were one of the first, in their new estate, now it's been full for over 2 years now, but according to Google Earth, it's a rather new and empty estate ?
Have heard that a combination of Satelite, and Plane shots, but who knows, or cares, it's great..
Still have trouble coming to terms with the fact that some areas you can go right in ( on zoom ) and other areas you cannot..
Would like to see more consistence, but that's the way it is.
Cheers
Bucky

Heres something else
Here in Qld most real estate agents pay for access to the Land Titles Office thru a thing called RP DATA
It shows a photo of the property and gives all the other data of previous ownership including the present owners purchase price etc etc etc
This information is public and anyone can pay a fee at the titles office to get it
with RP DATA there is a lot of other searches that can be done to many to mention here
so its not something new if you know an agent ask them
