Hi,
I have a '96 imported HiLux Surf with all Prado chassis, transmission and
suspension. It has done 80,000 Kms (with the first 70,000 Kms or so in Japan). It has IFS and live axle at the back.
I feel the
suspension, especially the rear, is quite bumpy and bouncy. In long drives and winding roads whoever sits at the back would feel car sick. I don't go around corner fast at all, I think it's just the quality of the ride and the body roll.
I asked my mechanic if replacing or upgrading
suspension will help, and he told me 4WDs are made for heavy-duty use and 80,000 Kms should be "nothing" for a
suspension.
Has anybody got any suggestions or experience in this topic ?
Would changing the shock absorber help ? Or should I change the coil as
well ? Or is it just the nature of all 4WDs with live axles ? What about the
suspension bushes ?
Cheers.

You could throw money at the
suspension and see if it makes a difference. but will cost you a small fortune.
80,000klms.. depends what sort of klms they were, Tufftruck challange, or mum to school!
Sounds like teh shocks arent dampening, so I'd start there

hi CC, sorry bout the late reply but i only got on here today for the first time.. ive got a 93 surf and from the outset it was sagging in the ass. looking around at almost every 4 runner and surf mobile i saw i noticed the same problem, rang good old toyota and they gave me thestandard reply along the lines of WTF ????. so i decided stuff it and went to ARB and got a set of OME's and inb nearly 20k + a s@#t tin of off road ive never looked back. from memory they were 1200 ish including springs shocks and stearing damper
just a thought and you might wanna give it a try oh btw it lifted the back end by nealry 40cm overall. and that was the standard arb lift of 2'' from standard (i think).
hope this helps
