I have seen them mounted on top of a snorkel, look like part of the furniture, higher is better I have been told.

Go hard then go home!So many places to go!
So much work to do :0(

Peter,
Checkout www.gpsoz.com.au, your antenna is listed under Aerials heading which states GPS end need only be near your GPS. Also has a specs page.
How about a report when you get it going?

Cheers Bob.

Bob L got it set up only took a few minutes to run the cable the receiver is magnetic ( on the roof) and the other end is now valcro to the side of the GPS holder , this unit plugs into cig lighter it has a great plug as you can still plug into the back of it without loosing use of lighter socket for other items .. As soon as I turned it one I could see the differance , it was a lot faster to track a lot of sats I am really pleased as I can now have the GPS positioned to where I can see it without worrying about it looseing signal strenght ... in all well worth the $150 Peter..Born to drive a 4x4 , not a keyboard

Go to the screen that displays the sat signal strengths. You can observe the difference the re rediating antenna makes as you move it around.Hooroo

Peter,
I have one of those aerials too. So far all I do is stick the outside bit out the door so it gets shut in the rubber and stick the magnetic bit on the roof. I figure that you might as well get things as close as you can by placing the outside receptor as close to above the GPS as possible. Another thing I've heard is that you should place the GPS somewhere its less likely to recieve its own signal, perhaps it'd get confused ( I put mine on the centre console ) . I also stick my inside skinny bit directly to the GPS. The guy from GPSoz said about 6 inches is the limit but the closer the better. As said above just check your satellite screen. I also can higghly recommend the book Advertised on this site "GPS vehicle navigation in Australia".You'll find the signal is heaps better than a nude unit.
