Caravan suspension guru's needed.

Sounds a strange request possibly??? but I was thinking of putting 32 or 33" tyres (match my GU) on my Supreme caravan. The van's suspension was suited to 235 x 75 x 15 when I picked the van up and I figure to fit the 33's in without comprimising the movement of the van and scrubbing tyres, I will need to lift the van by at least 80mm. It is Independant swing arm type with coils and shocks. I figure if I get longer coils (by the same as extra height of tyres) and shocks to suit I should be sweet. Then it's just a matter of putting the 32 or 33 x 16's on isn't it?

Is there anything else I should be thinking of before heading down the track to talk to Dobinsons about making me a coil to suit? I also had in mind to talk with Supreme in Melb but did not want to buy direct off them as they probably only charge me an arm and a leg for something Dobinson's will only charge an arm for LOL!!

Thanks for any answers forthcoming.
Trevor.

You'd have to check that changing the coil lengths didn't change the alignment of the suspension, it may affect the camber of the wheels.

If it is a golf then it may also change the alignment as their suspension is asymetrical.

This was what I was worried about Notso.

The reckoning is similar to a triangle and I want to change the length of one side, this changes the angle of all three points of the triangle.

Off to Supreme (the caravan manufacturer) and Sugar Glider Supsension (the suspension manufacturer)

Cheers,Trevor.

If you are fitting larger diameter wheels you may have to fit larger diameter brakes. Check with Supreme first. At any rate I would price the job with them first, you do not have to go with their quote. If there is any problems with your proposal they will advise you and not give you a quote.

Thanks Peter,

I figure I will be changing too many angles with the lift needed so I will speak with both the van maker and the suspension maker.

Regards, Trevor.

GDay Trevor. If you lift the van 80mm at the axle and more for the radius of the wheels & tyres you are going to have to change the tow conection height on the drawbar or the van will be dragged along nose down, backside up. If you only lift the hayman reese tow coupling height you will have trouble getting the rear doors open. All the best
