Hi All, A lady at work asked me today about their Prado..actually they just bought it for their daughter.. She says the low range lever is stuck in high, can anyone shed some light this? Is this a common problem or are just not using it correctly?? thanks Michael

Michael, Have you had a look at it......it may be just stuck and they don't know how to get it out..ie in neutral with the clutch in and rolling slowly either forward or backward etc....although it could be more serious, most times it is not and will come out with a little effort( force).

Hi Michael. High 2wd is towards the rear of the car. High 4wd is just a short movement forward. If the lever has been moved to 4wd it could be hard to move on a hard surface. It would be the same procedure to disengage as your patrol,ei neutral, soft surface etc. If the lever is original the change pattern is on the gearnob. Otherwise it may have a problem as
mine moves through the pattern easily. Bob.

It needs to be in nutral before you can move from high to low. But from hi all wheel to high 4WD can be done on the fly.
The hi low shift is also gated the same as the selector. Is the 4WD light on when the pus forward in to 4WD hi then push slightly down and to the right and then forward. The hi low light on the dash will note work depending on the model.

Probably just stiff from non-use. A cousin of ours bought an earlier model Prado and it had the same problem. (cousin not too sure what he is doing...lol). I manhandled the lever a tad and got it working. Don't think it has been used since. :-)

Ok Everybody Apparently they put the Prado into a Toyota dealer today, at some stage the gearbox had been out under warranty by a toyo dealer, but they put the lever back in the wrong spot, too far forward, must be behind the internal linkages.. Cost them $87 to pull the console and put the lever in the correct place.. Thanks all.. Michael

Hi Michael, should not have cost them anything if Toyota stuffed up. I wouldnt have paid the $$$. If your saying Toyota pulled the box out at some stage (any proof, reciepts ??) I would be walking back in ther and asking why they were charged. Typical. Probably was a friday repair originally and didnt bother testing it after it was reassembled. Wonder why the box was out in the first place. Got a chassis number for me ?? Send it to me via private message see if I can find out any info as to why the box was pulled out and any thing else done under warranty. Up to you if you want to know some history. Regards Steve M

Gday Steve,
Thanks for the offer but i dont really have a lot of interest in the vehicle only she asked what i thought.. I agree, it wasnt checked after refitting the box.. It was serviced by Toyota, apparently they knew the dealer that pulled the box but the didnt say why it was out.. main thing is its fixed, they are happy it wasnt big money to fix.. Thanks Michael.
