Ours only dropped earlier in the week from 190.9 to 185.9! It was 197.9 last week and it's a good idea to use it with the cool weather about :)

Hi,

What vehicle are you running the bio in, if you don't mind me asking?

Also wondering how you ensure consistency. Am doing bio diesel tests currently on commercial bio diesel and know I wouldn't run it through my vehicle. That is at 100% which is the only way you can quote your cost figures. Ie by going B20, B50 etc it'll increase the overall costs. Even commercial bio appears to be all over the place when analysed. Maybe ok if the engine is old style technology I wouldn't run it in newer vehicles. Fuel pump repairers have told me it's been a boom for their business, repairing pumps and injectors from running high % bio.

Any feedback would be great.

Ozboc,
Fascinating read. When i retire in a few years time to my farm i can see a bio diesel plant in my future.

HI , i run it in my nissan Patrol 4.2TDI 2000 model -- been running it for 2 years now - No ill effects , if anything it quietens the motor down and i dont have any smoke when i nail it. i run at anything from 100% to 10 % - depending on how much i have -- the time of year ( ie i used different feed stocks )

oil stays cleaner for longer ( less ash deposits ) fuel injectors are cleaned as its running through it

as for checking it - diesel motors are not high performance motors like you would find in a F1 car and therefore does not require an extremely refined / complicated fuel ( with exception of the newer diesels ) considering some people even run there diesels on SVO ( straight vegi oil) this is a testament to the diesel motors reliability , after all Rudolf diesel made these motors to run on very primitive oils such as coconut oil and such

I check my batch in a very simple way .. The Jan Warnqvist's Conversion Test

http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9411061471/m/8281092351

This is biodiesel , not rocket science - this works great in my 4x4 and i have had no issues with my 4x4 in 2 years , have not even needed to have injectors cleaned or serviced in this time & i tow a 1300 kg Caravan - i would have saved well over $3000 in fuel last year

I have also spoken to people in the earth moving industry that have been running bio in there bob cats and other small plants for well over 5 years now without issues.

You here a lot of people winge , but i have never MET ANYONE personally that had an issue with bio , its always been - " a friend of mine knows a guy " situation

Yes there can be an issue if your running an older engine ( pre 1988) where rubber seals are used in the motors/ pumps rather than viton seals - this will present an issue for those owners and people think that the caustic you use in the conversion process destroys your engine , this could be the case BUT you actually "wash your diesel several times untill the water is clear - this removes the caustic and methanol from your batch after the conversion has taken place.

when washed correctly the diesel will actually be cleaner that the crap you buy at the petrol station - you can test this for yourself -- get a small amount of diesel in a jar -- add water - shake - you will get a white emulsion separate from the diesel , this is the detergents , alcohols and other impurities in the diesel - with home made Bio - its washed till the water is clear - then dried

i could go on for hours , but im a little to hung over today :) either way -- i have now left 2 very useful links - the one on this post also goes to a forum that has a great bunch of people on there who are very willing to help with any problems ......
