Can I get other people's opinions on HID lights???
I have a 95 80 series cruiser with upgraded headlight wiring but really crappy headlights.

it was the brightest light with as close as possible to daylight.
mine are 55w, did not want to go the 6000 or above, think they are more wanker status than usable light.
shane.

We have 4200K Phillips Hi/Low H4 35 watt HID's in our headlights and a set of 35 watt 4200K Hella HID
driving lights.
4200K (4300K) are as close to daylight as possible and put out the most usable light on the road.
The further you go up the colour spectrum the darker the light becomes and less usable light on the road....6000K is a blue light, 8000K is purple and 12000K is nearly black. (With out getting technical this is the easiest way to explain it.)
The wattage and the "K" rating have nothing to do with each other, a 35 watt 4200K light will have more usable light output then a 50 watt 6000K light
People don't get dazzled as much with 4200K as they do with 6000K lights.
Don't try and compare HID's with normal Halogen lights as a Halogen light no matter what wattage will not compare with a HID light.
Regards Richard

Thanks for your comments Richard and I understand what you mean as I have been checking out the web and now I am after actual situations and the response from people like yourself who will give an honest opinion as you have purchased and tried them.

poppy, Hi, had HID lights in my GU, 35 watt 4300 k and have removed them as they are far too
bright for normal road use. They are infact illegal to use as headlights on anything that doesn't have automatic headlight levelling etc, ie been designed for them. Great light, awesome brightness but irresponsibe to be used as normal headlights. Just my thoughts. John

I fitted 4300/35w H4 HID's to the 7" Hella inserts on my truck and they work really
well. As has been said you cannot compare HID with Halogen.
Yes they are "illegal" but if aimed correctly then there is no problem, I've yet to be flashed by oncoming vehicles in over 2 years.
I suspect also that the quality of the reflector may come into the equation, cheaper headlight inserts would result in more light scatter. This may be a problem with the rectangular lights on the 80.
It is all a plus as far as I'm concerned, less power consumption, less heat, far better light and no more globes to break.
Try ebay seller 95 soarer, good to deal with.

I meant to add that I've also put 35w/4300k in the Cibie Oscars, the light is just unbelievable and impossible to outdrive.

Was talking to a Truckie at the Shell
Julia Creek and he had 4 in a row on the bull bar, the 2 center ones had a row of 6 blue LED parkers inside the lens, very impressive, when he overtook me between
Richmond and
Julia Creek and flicked em up to high beam when alongside my thoughts were ....AWESOME. I can't remember what brand they were.
How much money have you got...lol
