Hello fellow travellers. We've been members since late last year but have never felt the need to ask advice until now.
Do any members have advice on vacuums? We;re in coal country at the moment and in the fall-out zone of a sugar mill. Help!
Carmel

Hi Tony and Carmel
They might be dear, but can highly recommend the Miele Range of vacuum cleaners. If you have pets, you can't beat the Cat and Dog.
All the best
Cheers
Stephen

Thanks Steven, was hoping there was a cheaper, smaller vac that could be left in van permanently. Don't think I want to go the "dust buster" type.

gday guys
we bought a "bag" type cleaner a couple of years ago & as time went on we had trouble getting bags for it.
maybe a bagless type will be best especially if you are travelling, just a thought, cheers

Nilfisk is another very good brand.
You are probably getting the fallout from the cane fires rather than the mill, pesky fire bugs.

Id be looking at the bagless ones, purely for the fact that you dont need to buy the blasted things!
We have a dyson....they never lose suction....I vacuum 2 or 3 times a week and empty it out once a week.....the old vacuum cleaner bag got changed every few months....so the dyson picks up a hell of a lot of dust....which is seen on the cylinder...
there are other bagless ones but dont know how successfull they are....

Godfreys sell a device that connects onto the tube on a vac cleaner and makes any barrel cleaner (almost) bag free. You still have to leave a bag attached inside the unit and replace it about once every six months. The turbo unit is a little smaller than the bagless receptacle on things like the Dyson. But sooo much cheaper. Works fine. About $30.00. We also had good things to say about Meile

Hi there,
I had a dust buster a few years ago and became very disenchanted with it to say the least!!
I bought a DYSON bag less vacuum cleaner a few years ago for my house and it is marvelous...a little more expensive but money
well spent. Dust is a huge pain living on a station and this vacuum cleaner stands up to the test!
So getting to my point I would give the DYSON dust buster a go. Small and if it is anything like its bigger version you'll be very happy :-D
Cheers,
Lisa

Thanks for your input. Looks like favs are bagless and not dustbusters. Going to Mackay next week and I see there's a "vacuum shop" there. Will see what they have.
Cheers, Carmel

The Dyson dust buster -
Pros - it sucks
well, bagless, as good at what is intedended as the big model, which we have.
Cons - Choice confirms it only runs for SIX minutes before needing a recharge ... what the ....
And it is apparently quite heavy so not something you'd like to lug around for more than six minutes anyhow so it looks like its aimed at the "pick up mistakes" market rather than the fully clean something large market.

I've got the red Mielle barrel vacuum, it takes bags but they are readily available from Harvey Norman.
I highly recommend it, purely because it has top quality fittings, hose connections click in, as does the head - so unlike other cleaners that get loose etc over time. I tried one of those Electrolux type pet vax which does carpet washing too, and the first thing I noticed is how easily the head comes off on the backstroke, if you're not careful, that's what really made me appreciate my Miele, which I believe was only about $300 anyway.
Yes living in a dusty shed, with new wool rug shedding heaps of fluff, heaps of dust and dirt always inside from the kids and a couple of pets on top of that I find the bags need to be changed a lot more often to keep good suction. Back when I was in a house one bad lasted for several weeks vacuuming. And as a plus with each pack of bags you buy you get replacement filters.
Bagless vacs are fine, but the filter does get clogged is expensive to replace (depending on the brand) and otherwise a pain to clean all the time.

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. I should've thrown another thing into the mix earlier. I have limited mobility and strength. MS. So need a long-handled, lightish weight model. Have been in touch with Vac
shop in Mackay and have been informed that there IS a vac suitable for caravan and car. Not a dustbuster. Will look at that this week.
btw... love this caravan living. Every thing's close at hand and there's not a lot of housework to do. Suits me fine. Not wanting to go home!!!
Cheers, Carmel
