how to replace cv joint in 2003 nissan patrol,the front right clunks and does not engage when in 4x4

The c.v. joint is quite an involved job but if your handy with a spanner...... no probs.
The job is quite involved and not something i would undertake to describe in this reply. I think if you dont have a manual now is the time to get hold of one. There are quite a few adjustments to be made when re-assembling all the components and if your in there you may as
well do swivel bearings and the like.
This does sound more a hub problem than a c.v. as c.v's dont generally lose drive apart the most extreme cases. Yes they get noisy as all gedout but rarely lose drive.Get a manual, do both sides
change the diff oil when finished and look for any metal particles in diff oil
(c.v's dont generally lose drive)Unless of course it has had a cataclysmic (??) failure (that is rooly rooly big fanglin failure)

thanks for that, it gave way,on a steep rock ledge..by the sound of it i will let a mechanic do it.
