I recall reading various posts recently regarding the V10 Turbo Diesel Touareg (258 Kw and 850 Nm torque) and its advertised capacity to tow a 155 tonne aircraft etc. Not to be outdone I read with interest in the weekend papers that Audi will be releasing the twin turbo V12 diesel engine (368 Kw and 1000Nm torque) in Australia in July 2009 in its Q7 range. Claimed fuel consumption is 11.3 litres100km. I guess they make them because there is a demand for them but how and where could you use all that power and torque.

With a V12 you should be able to do 2 or 3 dunes at a time in the Simpson....lol

The Touareg that demonstrated it could tow an aircraft was not a standard vehicle!!!
It had a specially modified rear axle and 3.5 tonnes of ballast on board.
The standard V10Touareg Turbo Diesel cannot tow an aircraft!!!!

Mate of mine used to do the ads for some vehicles here. I asked how a Suburu could end up on top of THAT hill in the Blue Mountains. Simple. They took the engine etc out and helicoptered it in. The lies they tell ....LOL

You mean it can't really tow an aircraft? BUGGER, I was going to tow my 737 around OZ next year...guess I'll have to look at the V12 Audi then. :-)

With the price of aircraft fuel, that might be the only way you can get a 737 around Oz shortly :(

HI Matt,

Yes I'm very proud of my Hj61 Turbo Diesel. It is pristine condition - only done 167,000Km. Nearly every week someone comes up to me and wants to buy it !!! LOL
Bull bar was on it when I bought it - its 75mm alloy made in Toowoomba.

I don't doubt for a moment that it could move 155 Tonne, my 4.2 non turbo Troopy has towed 84 tonne far enough for the truckie to do a jump start. the one below.

I believe you Doug. I pulled a 22 tonne truck out of my property where it got bogged. My help along with the truck in gear was enough to pull it to harder ground.

Could also be playing with words. If pulling the plane from a standing start, then lots of torque and a good clutch would be of benefit.
On the other hand, If already rolling, the plane could be 'towed' by virtually anything.........even a Morry thou.

Cheers......Lionel.

Personally I don't see why someone would need more than the new 4.5 Twin Turbo Diesel cruiser engine torque and towing capacity wise. Also one would need to consider the attractiveness of an Audi V10 or V12 service cost wise, surely the cost to keep an Audi of that sort on the road would be substantial. If money isn't an issue and you want the power then fine.
