The family and I are thinking of doing Moreton Island in January, would love to hear from anyone who has done this trip.

We are coming from Victoria (Mexico), and towing a camper.

Moreton Island is a magic spot to camp for a week or so, although it can get a bit busy over the Christmas holidays. You may also find it a bit hot. For some reason it doesn't seem to be as popular as Fraser Island, although it offers equally good (IMHO) camping.

We've always camped in the individual camping bays in the North West Camping area, on the beach south of the Comboyuro Point camping area . We avoid the CP camping area like the plague - over Christmas it will be crowded and noisy. You can always drive to have a shower and fill your water drums.

You may have already found this site.

George, was thinking of staying in the CP camping area in October but now I'm thinking the spots you mention may be better. What are these spots like? are they ok for a camper and are they down on the sand or back up in the bush a bit.
Thanks.

This reply may look a bit cludgy - I'm on the road and replying from a PDA. The barge will drop you off at Tangalooma (excuse spelling). Come back to this spot to swim with the dolphins. Drive north, around Cowan Cowan, and when you get back on the beach you'll pass 15 or so individual camping spots at the top of the beach. These spots will each take one or two CTs, and are under the trees at the top of the beach. I'd recommend a chair and a beer to watch the sun go down;-)

It will be fine in January - not too busy if you avoid the designated campgrounds and stick to the less structured "zones".
Definitely be a bit warm in January. I'd suggest camping on the eastern beach to catch some breeze and some fish :-)

I'm actually heading there tomorrow. Hope there is some fish for me this time!

Towing a camper may be fun! Lots of loose sand.
