Hi guys
Been having a fourth gear problem in my 89 patrol for quite a while and the previous owner used a piece of hose to replace the pieces at the bottom of the shifter.now.Sometimes it goes in and sometimes it just wont go at all, even while engine turned off. Its annoying driving in third on the highway (S L O W). The previous owner used a piece of hose to replace the pieces at the bottom of the shifter. Also the socket is busted. Could it be these that are the problem or is it the case itself?

G'day Lawrence

I would say the problem with your 4th gear would more than likely be the busted socket and the pieces of hose which you described above....I take it you mean that the rubber bushes in the shift linkage have worn out and they have been replaced with bits of hose??....I think l would be fixing these minor problems before you go pulling your gearbox apart...for the costs involved its certainly worth trying anyway.....

Cheers........Borgy

Yes, Borgy, I am going to order the parts next week, although I have heard that the Navara used some of the same shifter parts
