G'day guys,

Had one of these on order for almost 12 months. As I understand it, they have moved their operation off shore, and were finalising fabrics etc. I had spoken to the dude who is linked from their web site about four times in the last 12 months - most recently probably 6 weeks ago. I see now though, that their website has now disappeared - and therefore his number as well.

Does anyone either know what's going on, what his number is or where they have moved to.

I get the feeling my next question is going to be, "what is the second best rack sack" because Michelle's have shut up shop!

their manufacturing used to be here in Perth, Balcatta I think, Then they moved it to QLD. There is still a contact in Perth I'm pretty sure.

Hi Ivan,

The Jan 2008 issue of Overlander has an item about Michelle's sac in a story on the National 4x4 show (page 100 if you have a copy). It says a company called MSA has taken over distribution. There's no contact details listed.

A group called 4x4 store have Michelle's Sacs listed, maybe they can help.

Looking good - they have 12 months of backorders which they reckon to fill in two weeks from second week of Sep.

Hi I have been trying to get some parts for over 8 months and finally decided they have gone belly up, shame they where great to deal with. I have one of their roof bags and also have one of these bushpak and it is as good as the Michelle one, do not get the cheaper one as it is BAD!

I have both as they are different sizes.

Have fun

Craig

Spoke with Mark from MSA Products today regarding roof rack bags. The new shipment of them is arriving in mid September. Apparently slightly different than the previous ones with some sort of extra cover going over the bag for protection and better straps to tie down with. For the 1.2m long (all are 0.9m wide) the price is $438.00.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ivan

Dont know if you remember me from the LCool tip to the flinders (Trevor in the silver prado)

Stock has been tight so i tried a local (Adelaide) Halls canvass great stuff and a choice of colours and plenty of tie downs had it made slightly taller to fit the swaggs.

Try a local in Canberra and you should get a good job and back up at the same time.

Just repost if you want the contact details.

Headin over to the highlands come xmas might even pop into Canberra.

Yep, I'll third that. The best canvas stuff I've got came from Halls - some is 17 years old. I have a recollection that Roachie got a custom size roof sack made up by them.

From what I heard Michelle's Sac went into receivership or something and they formed a new company, MSA might stand for Michelle's Sac Australia.

We had some gear on order through a third party from Michelle's Sac and they delivered the product from MSA.

This is my personal opinion only, when they first started operations Michelle's Sacs produced some inovative and useful products for the 4wd industry.Over time the product range increased and the prices increased dramatically as the range expanded.Granted the quality was excellent, however the market picked up on these products and more companies now produce similar products.
After ordering a drop fridge slide from Platinum products for delivery in 2 weeks and then waiting nearly nine months to recieve the fridge slide one would have to wonder why it takes so long to 'finalise fabrics" or have problems with the quality of the steel for the runners or the many other problems associated with the products.

Why not try to buy local as we should!! Michelle's popularity was probably a combination of good products and also being locally manufactured.. So now that they have become bigger and greedier by manufacturing offshore, why not try to buy local again.. Michael

Try Klaus,
he is a good bloke and makes stuff to order. He is in the country and he backs his product as a few here can vouch.

I'll also throw in a good word for Klaus. I bet he could make the same stuff at a good quality for a whole lot less cost.
