I got a much better insurance deal on my 2004 patrol through DGA insurance.
I'm not sure of the do's and don'ts in regards to promoting company's, but I just had to tell people about the great service and price I got from Australian 4wd insurance (DGA Insurance brokers)

I was previously with TCIS , but Australian 4wd was $841.00 cheaper.
I checked the policies and the PDS. Both match and cover the same things.
Both will cover my lifted suspension and accessories.
From all accounts I can see the policies are the same, but with a dramatic price difference.
Everyone of my questions was answered in writing and the customer rep even sent me a policy with the items I queried highlighted for my reference.

Have I missed something, or having I just been robbed for the last 12 years???

Renewal from previous insurer was $1717.00
for a GUIV 2004 ST 3.0l manual TD Patrol valued at $38,000.

New quote was for $876.00.

$1717 - $876 = $841 difference.

I'm very glad I shopped around.
It'll pay for some new toys, or for half a set of BFG muddies or next years rego and some........
Oh hell............wifes birthday soon......there goes the money.

You was robbed b4, but your new insurance is market value, so u have paid x amount for whatever the acessor deems your patrol is worth at the time...a friiend bought a 100 series for 32 and a few months later put it in the river, it was deemed to be worth 22, and was undamaged other than fresh water...so beware....GIO and QBE offer agreed value policies, at least you know what you will get for your hard earned if need be....

Thanks, Dozer,
I am aware of this policy and A4wd Ins do offer agreed value.
I just have to get it appraised by an authorised valuer.
Am currently trying to organise.
Previous insurer did the same.

I guess it pays to listen and learn.

Just checked my insurance for the 2007 GU ST with a lot of extras.
I am insured with SGIO and my yearly premium is $499.02 with an agreed value of $71,775.00.
I do have 3 other policies with them so I do receive a discount.

I think you will find all insurance companies must offer cover for anywhere in Australia or it's territories as long as you are allowed to be there, paddocks, National pks, beaches, off road or on road wherever, as long as it's not private property AND you are not allowed to there.

Even then they cannot refuse if you should run off the road and "land" in private property.

This is the case with most if not all companies.

Hi Wayne57,
I can't figure this insurance stuff out for the life of me.
Last year I hunted round, spent the whole day on the phone and Internet chasing up quotes to insure my Cruiser. I got it down from just over $800
The best I could manage was GIO, $540 an agreed value of $18000 with the $3000 worth of extras. I've never had an insurance claim or accident, neither has Fysh (SWMBO). We haven't had a ticket for over 14 years now. We also have multiple policies. It is in a locked shed in a locked yard every night.
I questioned them about the postcode. I live 35k's from the nearest big town that we share the same postcode with aand 12 k's for a smaller town but don't have their post code, which I have check would give me a cheaper premium and we have no crime. The said it didn't matter, we shared the same postcode as the larger town.
How do you get to insure yours for $71,775.00 for under 500 bucks?

Just curious.

I don't know how they work either but my Patrol is covered anywhere I drive it as long as I don't do any racing or trials.

Same here Wayne57.
Racing or trials? I'm over that kinda thing.
I guess what it comes down to is,
I'm going to have a bet with the insurance company that for 500 odd bucks a year nothing is going to happen to my truck. But if something was to happen and it needed to be replace for X amount they will pay that amount.
Hmmm

Has any body dealt with real insurance? Their ads say they give back 10% of your premiums after three years of not making any claims.

Jon
that's just a no claim bonus paid after 3 years instead of a discount EVERY year.

and possibly others, give a 70% discount to good drivers that haven't had a claim for however many years (and after 5 years thats with you for life).

That mob want to give you 60% NCB and a further 10% after 3 years, the sums are the same, just with them you have to pay it for 3 years to get it back, some people will see that as good.
Cheers Colin.

During my research, I discovered that almost all companies cover you on Oz soil as previously stated "as long as you are legally allowed to be there"
What my difficulty was and the reason for a higher price, is my suspension modifications.
I have a 4 inch suspension lift.
This may sound odd, but if you read the PDS's that they give you, it is a modification that a lot of companies won't cover.

My premium is also a bit higher as I use it for business purposes as well.

From other peoples experiences, I have learned that in the case of most small claims you shouldn't have a problem.
Crash into an E63 mercedes and push it through a woolworths. Watch the damage bill accumulate, then watch the insurance company look for any avenue of escape they can.
Put yourself in their shoes. If you can find a loophole to get out of a multimillion dollar claim, wouldn't you???

I have learned so much about it, I am now scared to drive!!!!!!
If anyone has 285/75R16's on a patrol???? Yes I know its been done to death here before, but insurance companies can have a legal out.
It just becomes a litigation issue. Ie contributing factors etc etc.

I came across this page soemtime ago when I was insuring 'The Landy'.

Whilst I have specialist insurance I have always told the insurance company everything I had done to the vehicle, in writing. That way there is no issue about what they are covering. I guess that is the key point about insurance. You provide the insurer with all details of the risk they are covering and they accept that risk for a premium or decline to insure you. Providing you disclose all there will never be a problem, but if you don't disclose all details they will reasonably argue you did not give them all the facts to enable them to decide whether they wanted to insure you or not. Usually people only find this out after a claim is made.

Interesting thing is that should you get one or two speeding fines or infringements for other traffic offences after you have taken insurance out you have an obligation to disclose this to the insurer. If you don't the can argue in the case of a claim that their risk had changed and they weren't advised.

Makeover or Monster

I was going to question the cost for my 2002 4800 Patrol from AAMI but at $437 ($1000 excess) I think I will just quickly and quietly pay it.

I have always gauged my insurances with how I get treated with a claim. A few years ago I had a hilux stolen (by a drugged up 15yo) and was written off. I am with RACQ and their service to me was great and I had a payout in a few days, which was a couple of thousand $ more than I expected. So I stay with them. Maybe their premiums are more expensive or cheaper than others but their service was great and showed some compassion to my plight I was in at that time.

Cheers

Howard.
