Anyone aware of different dizzys in the 351 ford v8s?. My bro inlaw is having grief with his at the moment, its a 94 mod ex
ambulance fuel injected. The thing stopped on his way up north ,their in
Tweed heads at the moment but have been going thru some trying chit as to which dizzy fits this beast!!. They had one sent from
melbourne and it does not wan't to play the game, it just won't fit , guaranteed to be the right one?? Some guru in the area said he could modify it has done it before, they let him at it and the result. still won't fit!!!. They are all at a wits end, I haven't got the full story but it appears to not want to
seat down far enough. Anyway, just thought someone may have struck this problem with one of these old motors at some stage.
Cheers Axle.

Axle I remember (in the dim dark brain matter) there is a change over year as the dizzy stem...was 13 mm and changed to 12 mm!
So there are fixes to some that require a bushing on the end so it will fit snug in the recess but if yours is the 12mm one then only option is to tun it down on a lathe.
Is that the 'fit' problem you are describing?
Matt.

I have been in
ambulance workshop in victoria for many years and had all the F/Series come through . maybe I can help ! when ever we had one that stopped we would repair the distirbutor .
I,m guessing it has stopped because of no spark . in that situtation we would replace the hall generator ,the TFI module
and the coil , is it a 5.8lt

Get them to get the Ford part No. off the Buggered Distributor, or call ford and get it off there System then cross reference that No. with a MSD, Mallory Ect part number, or just get a loan out and buy the ford Pt LOL
If they sit them both side by side surly you would be able to see any differences between the 2.

Mate, when you have a musician, a hyperactive sister inlaw, and a total stranger for a mechanic working on a old F250, Common sense seems to go missing somewhere!!. ...lol will see what happens tomorrow.

He needs one of these, the earlier ones are 12.2 mm, later ones are 13.1. The gear ratio is the same. The earlier ones will fit in the bigger hole but the oil pump drive will slop about and eventually flog out the key.

if the dizzys are the same the reason it want go all the way in is possible that the oil pump drive is not going into the bottom of the dizzy shaft. A points dizzy will not replace a electronic dizzy as the points dizzy has a larger shaft. If its oil pump shaft problem this can be fixed by inserting the dizzy and then holding downward pressure on top of the dizzy retate the engine clockwise by hand and the oil pump hex drive will go up into the bottom of the shaft. They might have to do this a couple of times to get the right timing.
this might help

Sorry Axle
but while we are talking classic Ford's this is a future classic right up there with the genuine GTHO shaker.
FPV F6
If you have a lazy $66,000 lying around get yourself one of these and keep it in pristine condition and in 20 years, you too can have a classic piece of Australian automotive history that will appreciate over the years to the point of cult status.
Go for it, and buy me one too please.
Colin.
