Matt
I was living in Surfers and one day my old Fairlane broke down for the umpteenth time just opposite a caryard, And there was this Suzuki on a ramp looking at me. Cost me $2000 in 1977. After thay we decamped back to the NT and there I joined the Suzuki Club and we went bush every payday.
Maintenance was high but not expensive. After a weekend of mud and sand you had to pull the hubs off to clean the brakes out. Wheel bearings had to looked at quite often as I recall. The 40lt fuel tank sat too low on the vehicle and we often dented them so that the fuel intake was blocked. A simple remedy of fitting an air hose to the fuel breather under bonnet pushed the tank sides and base out on many an occasion.
You will see
home made flares in the second photo as there were no flares to be had in 1977 as by then I had upgraded to 15inch Armstrong Rhinos. Later I shod the cars with Dick Cepek Mudders and eventually settled on BFG Muddies.
I sold my soft top after I took it for a swim in the flooded Fergusson River in 1978. It lay under
water for about 4 hours. Had tp remove all the fuel lines to get it going again. Then I traded it. It was a good little car having towed a 1.5ton trailer all the way from Surfers to
Darwin. I think it only has about 50,000 on at that time.
There's more....lol. Lots of hair raising Suzuki adventures over the years
I must write all of this down sometime :-)
Cheers
