spent last month in FNQ and stayed/visited a large number of parks and camping grounds.

must say there was a large disparity in both standards and cleaning

national parks are trying and have put in a lot of enviro toilets but the overflowing toilets at captain billys and fruitbat falls were past the funny stage. personally I would prefer to dig my own hole.
Sure I know it was holidays but wouldnt they expect high usage during that period and either pump out before the peak period or when the contents reach seat height.

as far as the more conventional parks go-
brickbats to the Weipa camping ground
we were there for 4 days and I dont remember the shower/toilets being cleaned during our stay.- also one of the more expensive parks to stay at although not as outragous as the east coast seaboard.
Bouquets to Jowalbinna camp ground out of Laura.
these were the cleanest and freshest amenities we encountered during the whole trip.( and a great base to do a 1 dayer into Maytown from)
While accommodation is perhaps the cheapest component of a trip these days you are basically paying for hot showers and clean toilets. perhaps those providing the "service" should concentrate on those aspects .I dont think many people stay in a caravan park for the view or the atmosphere.

cheers
Howard

Hi Howard:

You may want to consider posting your comments on the Aust Caravan Park Reports site, which will help many others as well.

Thanks for the tips here, too.

This is the link.

This is an awesome site - Aust Caravan Park Reports. Its great to hear the 'no frills' comments from fellow travellers. We are about to head off on our own 12 month adventure touring our Lucky Country and will no doubt refer back to this site and also leave feedback.

Evidently the park owners dont read the reports, that Pt Augusta one at Stirling North hasn't changed since 2005, was there a month ago, was worse than reported, wish i had known earlier.

The Park owners may not, but intending users do, and if the owners/operators notice their patronage slipping, they could be motivated to do something about it.

I use it a lot when I am on the road, as do all the people I travel with.
