bevan83,

I have a '98 2.8ltr turbo diesel GU Patrol with a chip fitted by people at Berrima. In 2002 when I had the chip fitted it cost $1150.00 and the car was in the shop for the best part of a full day. The chip fitted can be unplugged and the settings for the motor return to normal. Not sure what is involved with the fitout.

The benefits with the chip are very noticable with a large reduction in the turbo lag with the turbo cutting in earlier with much more power.Hill starts which are a little bit of a problem with this motor are also helped due to the chip.

Not sure about fuel economy as I do not have figures without the chip, but I am a little suspicious that these may be a little higher than standard. ( 14 to 15 ltrs/100k's)

Overall I think the chip brings the power of the 2.8 ltr up to something similar to the 3.0 ltr motor and was the best money I spent on my patrol.

Yep chewing a bit of fuel there. Those are the sort of figure I get when towing my camper into a strong headwind. Usual is 11.5ltr/100km. The average I've returned over the past 240000km is 12.33ltr/100km. Mind you my GU 2.8 is not chipped.
