Hello to all .....
I am stuck with a quandary!
I have a desktop PC loaded with Google Earth 4.2 0205.5730 which works as it should ..... perfectly! It displays the Google icon and the copyright date of 2007.
I use this function to locate alledged immense deposits of gold nuggets in FNQ ......... from my home/office !!!
I also now have a u-beaut LapTop, loaded with another Google Earth dated July '08 -- Google Earth 4.3.7284.3916 (beta).
It was my plan to take this into the field this week-end and find the said immense deposits of nuggets .......
BUT : there is now a dirty great big flashing angular hole, smack in the middle of where I want to be. Multiple flashing geometrical shapes .... no colours .... just a blank WHITE space.
And I can't get rid of it. Have tried an uninstall/re-instal, restore, rude sailors talk, dis-abled my firewall (AVG), enabled Windows firewall, got up and made a cup of tea, asked my wife for help (don't even go there !!!) and a lot of other stuff .....
I would like to download the same programme that is on my PC, but I keep getting this 'beta' programme, or just get rid of this hole.
I have a basic knowledge only of PC stuff .....
can some-one please guide me here ??

Owe you a beer or two, Notso !!!!!!!
Your solution worked ...................
Bloody thing has now disappeared!
I t appears, I think, that it may be to do with my Graphics Card (whatever that is ?) being inadequate.
And that the "outline" of that blank whole coincided precisely with the area I had outlined to search for the afore-mentioned massive deposit of nuggets !!
I hadn't registered with me at the time, until your solution got rid of the blank but left my original outline there. Have now deleted that also, just in case.
Much obliged for your help, thanks ..........

Notso ..... just to follow-up :
Can I now go back to opening Google Earth with DirectX-9 which is much faster than "Open withGL" ...... or is that where the problem is caused ??

You can reverse the
Tools Options tick Direct X close restart.
You can also try downloading the latest Direct X drivers for your graphics card.
Or even try downloading updated drivers for your card, just be careful that you get the correct ones.

I have had a very frustrating run with Google Earth as
well . I bought a Mac twelve months ago , hated it and had the Mac OS wiped and Windows installed .
After this , the Google Screen looked as though
water had been poured on it . My son reckoned it was the "drivers " and re-installed the Mac OS and then Bootcamp - a program that lets you run Windows with Mac in the background .
Anyway it works brilliantly now. After months of frustration that is a wonderful thing .
Like you , I search for immense deposits of gold nuggets , but in WA not Qld . I am surprised at how hard it is to see the bulldozed "pushed" areas on Google .
Do you get internet coverage at your fossicking location , or do you -
1 ) Save maps in the cache memory to look at when you are there ?
2 ) Save map
views to file and open those files when you get there ?
3 ) Transfer your Google Earth waypoints in a file to OziExplorer so you can use them to find your spots ?
4 ) Make maps on Gmapmaker from Google Earth , so that you can use them in OziExplorer ?
Good luck on your next trip . I am off to
Tibooburra for some detecting next week .
Willie .

The only Gold Nuggets I saw on Google Earth, was when I zeroed
in on the Google Streets and saw the Kentucky Chicken Joint at
the local Shopping Centre, they were advertising Golden Nuggets.
Cheers
