Hello
We would like to know if it is possible to put our ‘Roof Top Tent’ onto our Trailer.
We know that would mean getting a different type of Roof Rack.
Also for support we thought of having ‘Stilts or Poles’ coming off the roof rack, but have hinges to clip up when travelling.
Would we be able to do such a thing?
If so, would it come to a big expense?
Hope someone can help us.

Hi Bath,
The short answer is yes, we've had our Aussie Traveller on the trailer for a while. I will ask the ........... umm THE
cook (LOL) to post some picks on Saturday.
Cheers,
Wayne.

Yes, we bought a tradesman trailer and placed a roof top tent on top of that, I made a falls floor for extra storage inside and a solar panel on front of trailer roof with a beep cycle battery on the a frame to run the 60l Waeco, all works
well, I cant include a photo as I am only a visitor but if you would like a photo I can send them to you, just let me know your email. Pete

Bath,
I'm considering the same sort of system as
well to do away with my roofrack. Remember that the height of the tent oo the trailer will cause issues with fatigue on the struts etc from movement caused by rough roads. ie, I intewnd having
mine 1.2 metres above the tray of the trailer and as I travel corrugated outback roads, the uprights will have to be reinforced
well with cross supports and corner gussetts. Not such an issue if you don't go off road and keep the tent low on the trailer. Something to consider.
Cheers. Mick

I came across this on ebay, I thought it may be of interest to you....
tent on top of trailer
I don't think that (ebay) idea would be 100% great (bedding falls out of tent if you have to open trailer, problems with awning if you need to open trailer), but it's a good concept. I reckon you have a top idea providing you can nut your way through a few of the potential hurdles.

Thank you for your replies to our question.
Ours is the enclosed trailer type, so this is why we mentioned ‘stilts’.
The trailer we bought is from “MW Tool Box” – WT2 series:
http://www.toolboxcentre.com.au/trailer/wt2.php
If you have visited the website, you will see the type and how high it is.
Being an enclosed trailer then it can be used to put all our
camping gear into it too, which will be great if we decided to go 4wd – then we can leave it at the
camp site.
As other trailers are lower, this one if we put the ‘Roof Top Tent’ on it, then we could still use the ladder that comes with the tent.
We would need to get a roof rack that fits inside or on top of the trailer rack and then we would have to weld on or have fitted the ‘stilts’ or something as extra support for the roof rack.
But the ‘stilts / supports’, will need to be placed in particular areas, so we can still open most of the doors, also the tent opens to the drivers side – ladder on that side too, (so this door will not be accessible).
If you know anyone that is good with welding or can create a roof rack with the stilts connected to it that can be folded or hinged up to the trailer during transport.
