Hi guys.

Many of you would not be aware of Equinox's (Alan's) fantastic achievement in relocating Carnegie's Patience Well in the Gibson Desert. It probably hasn't been visited since Carnegie was there in 1896.

Through perseverance and hard work Alan (or Mr. McCall as the journalist calls him) with his father and brother over numerous trips to the area, has hit the jackpot and found the site, some 12 kms SW of where it’s marked on the maps.

Today’s West Australian newspaper, on page 11, carries a 3/4 page feature article on Alan’s journey and his success.

Alan, on behalf of everyone on the ExplorOz forum, please accept our hearty congratulations on your success and a job well done.

Cheers

Phil

Well done Alan, and it is good to see that your hard work and perseverance has paid off. I will now and see if I can see a copy of the per on the web.

Congratulations Alan and you dedicated team.

A lot of effort pays off. Congratulations Alan. Unfortunately, the West Australian has yet to put the article on its website. Any chance of one of you Perthites scanning the article and posting it?

Cheers. Mick.

Thanks Phil, I am one of those that are not aware of the effort to locate this historically important site. Worse!! And shame on me, but I do not know about Carnegies Patience Well. Could you please point to a web site or something so as I can find out more about it. Thanks

Hi Barry
If you get hold of the book "Spinifex and Sand", it will give the full story of David Carnegie and details on page 134 when he found the well and how they obtained 140 gallons of water from the well.

Regards

Stephen

Hi all,
congratulations to Equinox and crew. I was another under educated one who had no idea. The following link has the Spinifex and Sand book which you can download.

Thanks Phil, and all.

This whole situation has been quite a remarkable experience. I feel somewhat humbled by this, although also quite privileged as well.

I said to myself earlier this year that I would give up the search if I didn't find it this time. The best result has followed.

The book "Spinifex and Sand" is a true Australian Adventure Story and is an inspiration. One can only wonder what would have happened if Carnegie had decided to remain in Australia, though it sounds as if he could only be happy,"on the move".

Once again thanks,

Cheers
Alan

Phil(and Alan)

>some 12 kms SW of where it’s marked on the maps<

That comment is very interesting as I came to the conclusion this year that Dwarf Well(west of Lake Mackay) was about that distance in a South Westerly direction from where it is marked on the map.

Could it be a cartographers error? Or maybe a magnetic error when the maps are produced? I was going to get on to Geoscience to ask the question but haven't got that far yet.

Cheers

In a previous life Alan would have been doing the same thing (but with horses and camels - not his Toyota) and we would be reading about him in the history books - It is s privilege for him to part of our Forum
