I have a slide on camper that usually sits on a flat tray ute. Floor area is about 1600x 2200. When not in use I'd like to store it on a moveable platform - I need to be able to move it up the driveway and in under a low carport because when its on the back of the Rodeo it doesn't quite fit under the rafters in the carport.
All I've been able to think of is getting a pallet made to the right size (no idea what that would cost) and then using jockey wheels at the four corners. The camper weighs about 600kg unloaded so the platform needs to e strong.
Any ideas about platform set ups I could use that might be better? (I'd like to avoid getting a new carport!).
thanks

Could build a metal frame similar to a table with
heavy castor wheels on each leg. Mounted at the same height as the ute the camper could simply be pulled accross with a small hand boat winch.

Thanks Cackles and Kev. Getting the camper off the ute is no problem as it has the winding legs. The problem is I need to wheel it about 20m up a driveway so I need some sort of platform on wheels or dolly setup.
Maybe the problem is that the slide on shouldn't be out of use...maybe I need to get on the road again lol!!
thanks again.

Maybe you could get an old trailer that is low enough to rest it on,then reverse it into position.
You didnt say how much head room you have.
Other wise, a couple of piano trolleys or a pallet trolly etc.
If you driveway is uphill ,it will be like pushing a small car,so it needs to roll easy.

Thanks
Ross. I think the pallet sounds might be the way to go. Do you know if there are any companies that actually makes pallet trolleys?
My driveway is flat so I'm not worried about moving the camper once its on wheels.
cheers

Pallet trolleys are usually made by forklift companies.
I think you must have seen the type I mean.
They start at around $300.
The only complications are they only have around 250mm lift ,so you would need to be able to reach the camper.
Also ,600kgs on a pallet trolley is still a hefty load to push. Im assuming your female by the
logon name.
You could hire one for $30 a day to try it out.

A custom pallet could be made from pine by companies that make boxes for packing ,expect a hundred bucks or so.

Hauling this thing up (and down!) a driveway does not sound like fun.
Being male (and therefore averse to any form of labour around the house), and being nowhere near as inventive as Crackles and Sir Kev, may I ask a silly question? Have you had any advice about how you may raise the roof of your carport?

I considered raising the roof of the carport and with the angle of the roof, it will block light into my neighbours kitchen.
I used to roll my old slide on camper on workshop trolly's. It was heavier but a breeze to move once it was on wheels. Unforunately the legs on this camper don't wind down low enough to get it onto the workshop trollys. Life can be complicated!
thanks

maybe you could attach some wheels to the bottom of the legs

I would build a simple steel frame with some decent sized wheels/tyres (wheel barrow) to a suitable height that it will fit under the roof. If you don't need to go around corners, the wheels wouldn't need to steer. Just back ute up to in front of carport, lower legs, wind up to remove ute, roll in platform, lower slide-on onto it, push back. This assumes the slide-on's legs can lower the unit low enough to get under the carport roof. If that's the case, jockey wheels (can get then with a decent sized wheel) on each corner might work to get it low enough. Jockey wheels would also let you push it sideways if that helps get it 'more out of the way'
Cheers, Nige.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I ordered a custom pallet today ($50) and will get the jockey wheels at supercheap auto ($25 each) and hopefully within a few days the camper will be freewheelin' up and down the driveway.
