Hi all just after information on power from generators in general.
We want to buy one that will run our air conditioner in our van,From the archives i notice the brand Kipor mentioned,We have seen one of these and they look good .The questions is can you start your air conditioner off your battery in the van then change over to your generator as I believe from reading you need more power on start up than actually running time?
If this can be archives then would a 2KVA generator be suffice?
The salesman person stated that running a van air-conditioner we should not get anything less than a 2.6 KVA is this true?

Moo,
The most popular generator that I have comes across in the bush is the Honda 20i or the Yamah 2.4. The Honda will run our Commander A/C, but I am not sure that it will run the latest Commanders.
The Yam 2.4 is quiet a bit heavier and more bulkie, but seems to run the lastest A/C. I would buy a Honda again but would try out before buying.
Other brands are cheaper than these two units, but the Honda and Yam are proven.

I purchased a cheap sinewave gene about 18 months ago. I have only used it half a dozen times. I went to use it a little while ago and it would not start. I had pulled it apart and found that the fuel hose had perished and I have been flat out trying to find one to replace it.
When I got it back together it still would not start. Cost of labour if I put it into the
shop is prohibitive.
So simply for me the moral of the story is buy one of the trusted brands. Yes more expensive but worth it in the long run.

So true, we have 3 Honda EU20i's in our service vans that get a hammering and never had a problem, always start first pull.
Easy to get parts for them as they are supported by Honda Australia.
Yamaha is another good brand and seems to be a little quieter then the Honda's.
With Honda or Yamaha you can't go wrong and with support from their parent company as a bonus.
I'm always skeptical about other brands that aren't bought into Australia buy a large manufacture like Honda or Yamaha, will you still be able to get parts and service in the future, what happens if the importer goes through the hop or worse still if the manufacturer in China goes bust.
With Honda or Yamaha you pretty safe knowing they are going to be around for years to come.

What size A/C do you have Moo?
The Heron 2.2 will happily run off a 2000 watt Honda or its copy, Kipor.
The Heron 3.0 will not.
Jim.

Your first question - can you start the air-con off the battery - I expect the answer is no.

I have been recently looking for a genset myself, I figured the competition was between the Honda Yamaha and Engel, I ended up going with the Engel, the reason being I was told that they use a Honda motor, the SHX 2000 retail for $1699 and I found a business in Qld selling them for $1130 brand new, so I ordered one, even with postage from QLD to
Tom Price I saved $500.

I like the Yamaha 2400, but all Yamaha's are only rated at 230V, and not 240 V, this will drop effiency on equipement and cause them to run hotter, any comments
