What a fantastic trip we had to the Tip.Some things we learnt along the way.Never listen to wha anyone else says always go and look at places for yourself.A lot of the time people would tell us don.t waste your time looking and we would anyway and be amazed at what some could fault eg.Chilli Beach.A beautiful beach, maybe a tad windy but worth going to also Portland Road a nice place for a spot of lunch. The OTL we found to be a wonderful experience because we always walk the creeks and take our time, unlike some who plough on through and get their vehilcle towed away, end of holiday.Cape Melville is awesome but do expect a bit of a drive with a lot of bulldust.Just want to mention how a misfortune can be so rewarding. On our way home we pulled into Coen for fuel went to leave and no clutch. The generosity of this town was amazing and heartwarming.Because of the isolation parts take a while to fly in even if you do have a Toyota. The mechanic organised a trip out to a property for us and gave us his ute for the week. Many an afternoon sitting on the Coen River. The new cafe has just opened and Margaret and Bruce from the Exchange are lovely people even going so far as to make me a cup of tea(soory I dont drink beer)It has become some of our favourite memories so remember when you think it has all gone pear shaped there ca be many good things to come .To all the wonderful people we met along the track Thank You.

Have found that myself, people saying not worth the effort but I still go as my likes are differnt to others.

Mind you I do take notice if they are talking bad sections of raod and problems at creeks etc.

I liked Coen a pity we only stayed for fuel and a few supplies.

It is a nice place the Cape and I hope to do it again in the next couple of years.

Brian

Hi out'n'about,
So lucky. Your memmories of Coen are nicer then ours. Aug 06 our vehicle broke the stub axle on our way to Wiepa, short of Musgrave and had to be towed. A tow truck was organised from Coen, to return us to Musgrave. Unfortunately at the time we were informed that there wasn't a mechanic at Coen and the mechanic their only did work on locals vehicle. Stranded at Musgrave for a week until we could organise a truck to take both trailler and vehicle approx 500kl to Cooktown for repairs to the vehicle. I will never forget the time spent in Coen, no-one came to our aid. Then unfortunately two weeks later our camper broke its stub axle again near coen and had to be picked up again by the same tow truck from Coen. For the 2nd time we spent another week stranded at Coen, waiting for a new axle to arrive from SA. Going by your experience it seems that now there is a working Mechanic at Coen. Cheers Allan & Mary Anne

Jeez guys, I'd stay away from Coen, it obviously disagrees with your machinery.

Cheers

I think you will find in 2006 clarky that owned the bp store and usually looked after everyone.
His wife was very ill and for that reason he was only looking after local 4x4s etc.

All the best
