Here's how to use geotagging to add location data to your image files.

Yeah its a nice idea have done a few, like the hard way but many I forget to put the gps co ords and rely on memory (failed hope).
This sounds like a better way but would cost me heaps ie new camera etc :).
Have to slow down and continue the way I'm going for the time being.

Doug,
Sounds like a great way to be able to organise your photos. Using the 'push pin' function, you could create a map, download your track files or draw the route manually showing dates, etc, then link your photos to each location.
Has anybody done this and is it reasonably easy for the technically challenged?
Matt.

I think you can have photo's linked to waypoints in OziExplorer ,

Thanks Doug,
I will have a play and see if I can work it. Sounds like a good project, I have about 6 months worth from our round Australia trip and would like to organise them a little better than I have.

Yes and automatic gps position for each photo would be greast if people then put the pics into our
Places system! When I take trip photos for example, I take a waypoint (Alt K) with OziExplorer on the laptop (on dashboard deskmount) and name the waypoint on the go. When I download the photos to Picassa, I type a caption for most photos - either to match the waypoint id that I took at that location, or the name of the
point of interest - text can be used for keyword searching later. I notice that Picasa also has an option for "geotag with google earth" as a function for each photo) but I presume that's a manual function, I don't use it. I use the time/date function to ensure I've got the pics in perfect order and match it up with the plot file too to be exactly sure.

When I read that I thought what a great idea, It did mention a Nikon Camera, I use a Nikon but not as elaborate as the one mentioned,
Tagging photo's in
Places , would the idea be that it would show the location on a map or maybe Google Earth ,
Was wondering just how much the Nikon Bluetooth Camera would cost, probably way over my budget now that I'm an old worn out pensioner .

There are a number of programs around that takes the time of the photo, and the time recorded with the Ozi Explorer track file, puts them together and creates a way point for each photo.

Yes - I use oziphototool for work - automatically creates waypoint files with photos as file attachments and
water marks images with coords and text. You can also create google earth files with thumbnail images. Works great.
Cheers
