G`day Photo Whizzes,
I have just returned from an across and back trip on the Simpson Desert and am anxious to load the photos. The problem is I had the wrong date and time setting on the camera which has resulted in all 392 photos having the wrong date & time. It would not worry me if it was just a day out but it was on the 24 hr system and changed days at midday which has any photos taken in the morning showing e.g. 22.45.15 the previous day.

Please, now clever people, is there any way I can correct (edit) the date & time on the computer ? or if not is there any way to delete just the date/time imprint from each photo ?? I would prefer to have nothing than what is there now.

Thanking you in advance.
Scrubby.

Most photo management software products can display EXIF data they should also allow you to edit the time and date stamp of the image plus many other image properties, i use ACDSEE Pro2 , but Adobe LIGHTROOM, Capture ONE all do the same thing.

Photoshop has a tool that you can erase part of the image and relace it with nearby pixels if thats what you have to do if the date is part of the photo. Its called a Clone Stamp Tool.

You might find it a challenge to get 392 pics altered though! It's a lot of work. Here's a link to one example of doing it:
Touchups
One way of avoiding the problem is not to have the date displayed on the original at all. Then if you really want a date stamp on some photos, there are programs that can read the date from the EXIF data, and put it on a copy of the photo (plus there are also programs that can change the EXIF data in multiple files, rather than doing it one at a time).

Cheers, John

G`day Steve & Denny,
Geez mate you picked a bad time to go bald and no beard, Brrrrr.
I was only home from Innamincka for about a week and Jeff O asked me to do an across and back of the Simpson with him, It was just tremendous , got home last Wednesday pm with a bad cold and it is only today that I have felt like posting things on here.
I have a trip report partly written that I will post when it`s complete.
Good to hear from you.

you've haven't actually said if the date and time is in the image itself or you're refering to the date & time in EXIF data.

Fixing 392 of the 1st kind is a lot of work... the 2nd, might be able to be done programatically.

which one is it?

actually, re-reading your Q "delete just the date/time imprint from each photo" probably implies the 1st option.

Yes it is the date/time that is actually on the photo that I want to fix, although it may be easier if I can just remove it and not have anything there.
Thanks anyway HGM,

Your going to have to edit every pic. Not to bad if you only want to do a handful. No fun to do 392! Follow advice above and grab the Gimp if you don't already have an image editing program (sometimes one will come with your camera, eg. Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro).

If the picture allows, cropping the text out will be easier and quicker than using Clone brushes (which can be an easy fix if the scene suits) but is usually complicated. This all depends on your expectations and standards.

For just posting a trip report, I'd just post a note that says the dates are stuffed :)

Cheers, NIge

i use a couple of free programs

http://irfanview2008.info/

it renames and can insert a date into a batch of pics, so you wouldnt have to do one at a time, however i dont know how it will turn out if you try and write the date over the top of the existing

the other one that i find handy is

http://www.altools.com/ALTools/ALSee.aspx

this will resize a batch of pics

dont know if this has helped but good luck
