Just want to know if anyone can tell me if I could fit wider tyres on the standard rims 5.5R16. The current tyres are 7.50R16 and I just want to go a little wider. Maybe 215R16. Thanks for helping.

Kiko,

235/85 are fine on the standard split rims.

Strictly speaking, you're not supposed to put 235/85R16 on the 5.5 inch rims because the tyre manufacturers specify 6-7 inch rims. But lots of people do.

Thanks for the tip, so how far (width) can you go with 5.5 inch rims?

215/85R16 is about as tall and as wide as you can legally go with most brands of tyres. But its a smaller diameter(775mm) than 750R16 (810mm), so I wouldn't bother with them.

If it was me, I'd shop around until I found a tyre dealer willing to fit the 235/85R16, which are the same diameter as your 750R16. As I said, theres lots of 235/85 around on 5.5 splits.
