G'day,
I am new to this site. my wife and i are looking at
buying a camper trailer, and have been looking at a
Dingo Camper trailer. i have searched on this site and found that people have said they were please with them, but that was 2002-2003. Do those people still have them and are happy with them, or has anyone bought one more recently and is happy or unhappy with it?
Cheers

I had one and had lots of discussions with other owners I met on the road. We all had tales to tell of quite bizarre experiences we had when making the actual purchase. Not sure who is doing the sales now, but some of the experiences then were decidedly odd. Not dishonest, just odd. Don't know what else I can say on that. The product itself is pretty good value and the design gave a lot of interior space because of the way the ends were designed to pop out.
The biggest problem the design used to have (and this may no longer be a problem) was that the canvas was stapled down underneath the wooden base. This made them almost impossible to repair if repairs were needed. I know a couple of canvas workers in Vic who simply wouldn't touch them. (I know, because I wanted to get some alterations done to it). All that said however, we used ours a lot and it was still going strong when we sold it for an off road trailer model. Never leaked any
water inside. Bit more cumbersome than some to put up, take down, but this may also have changed. We bought ours about 20 years ago and had it for about 12 years. We had the model that was a tent/base that you then fitted to your own trailer, so I can't comment on the trailer performance. The trailer models I have seen however all had the staple to a base board issue. This was clearly a reason why they were quite a lot cheaper than most of the competition.

If you like
Dingo, and they are a good camper, you'll love ours.
Very similar quality and construction at a better price.
We're just around the corner in Dandenong.
Give me a call on 9706 6527 for a chat if you're interested.
Jim.

Jim,
do you do the canvas work yourself or contract it out to a specialist company ?
What weight canvas and brand of zips are you using ?

Mainey,
We buy our Canvas Tops from Primus Kookaburra.
Canvas is 10 oz.
Bloody good quality stuff they make. We take it bush and flog the hell out of it before we sell it. I don't like the idea of having stuff returned, so I test it before I sell it.

G'day all,
Well after going down to
Dingo Campers on the weekend, all i can say is that all the stories i have heard are true. He is still retiring apparently and also found that he didnt really want to sell any of his campers as he was putting the price up on monday (which i am going to check). The other thing which i found funny was i am looking in the $7000-8000 price bracket and he kept saying ohh you wont find one for that price, when he had about 4 of them, for less than that price. But he did seem like a nice enough of a guy, just not that concerned with the selling me a camper side of things
Its a shame as his campers looked alright for the price and seemed to have everything i need, but he is a little offputting. i also noticed that the canvas is still stapled on, but i dont know how concerned i am by that.
Sorry Jim, i will contact you to talk, but didnt have long to come over on the weekend.
Also went to O'briens as
well, and that was totally different. he was more than willing to point out his campers and was really helpful, and although they are slightly more expensive as are the quality of the camper. its interesting to make the comparison.
Cheers
