Hi, I my air bag light has been flashing since i bought the car a couple of months ago, and i was just wondering if anyone has any idea about why it could be flashing.
I have a Temp and Boost gauge fitted just behind the wheel on the steering column (was fitted when purchased) and was wondering if the removal of the steering wheel could have affected the air bag or light/wiring? My mechanic says his diagnostic machine cant pick a fault and that ill have to take it to Nissan as they have one that might (that they wont sell to anyone).
Have checked all fuses and disconnected battery to re-set ecu but still no luck.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Had a similar problem with a Magna and it turned out to be a dodgy sensor in the side airbag attached to the drivers
seat. Replaced under warranty with no further problems.
Not sure how removing the steering wheel would affect the light or warranty. Will Nissan know that if you take it in?
With the Magna, needed a "you beaut" machine from Mitsubishi to diagnose the problem in 10 seconds. Not sure if this technology was readily available to all mechanics.
Cheers
Paul

Mike, my statesman was the same and they had to reset the computer to fix it. Only the dealer seems to have the reset ability.

So the verdict is to take it into Nissan and get them to fix it? I was hoping that would be avoided as they will charge 100 odd just to plug it in to their diagnostic.
Thanks guys

don't take it to a dealer, check the fuse in fuse box, most common course that i have found. if that is ok your mechanic is able to read the codes and repair.

normally when an airbag light comes on it means the airbag is diabled , so don,t have an accident .

Mike,
yes the airbag light will come on if the steering wheel had been removed without disconnecting the battery 1st. The airbag system would have detected a break in the connection to the airbag, and disabled the system as a result. Some aftermarket diagnostic equipment can reset the system, but it would appear your mechanic's system doesn't.
Cheers Anthony.
