Hi all,

Does anyone know of any nice camping areas within 1.5 - 2 hours of Gladstone where you can have a camp fire?

Thanks

You can free camp at the Calliope River camp site below the Calliope Historical Village for a max stay of 48 hours.

Kroombit Tops is another place as well.

Cheers Kev

Boyne River, at Benaraby. Not in the roadside stop, but down beside the river (on the eastern side of the bridge). Few sandflies here at certain times of the year and wind direction but still quite a nice spot.

Not sure if you like to take a ferry across to Curtis Island but if you do, there is great camping to be had on this island. Just get permission from the pastoral owners if you intend on heading up the island into thier property. Also Farmers point (IF my memory serves me right) was quite a nice spot but you need to take the ferry across here too.

Has been a long time since I lived there but these and Calliope river are about the best I can remember.

Cheers, Trevor.

Travel a little further west to Kalpowar State Forest, the campground allows for pets and campfires. If the bike riders aren't around it's quite peacefull.

Cheers Anthony.
