After a batch of suspect
water this year I have purchased one once I came home a few weeks ago for the purpose of filtering bush
water in the future......
I have yet to use it but the decision to purchase it came from a from a recomnded post on this
forum previously
it looks
well made etc.

A mate bought one, he likes it, reckons it removes tastes etc. You can only do so much with some of the
bore water around Aus.
Some of it is that hard you have to turn the tap on, wait till a bit runs out, then break it off and chew it!!
The only thing to do with that sort of
water is to boil it and leave it sit overnight, most of the calcium will deposit out and any smells will be driven off by the boiling.

Rosco,
What possible use could you have for it?
You're not suggesting you have ever drunk
water LOL.

Jimbo
In the first instance, it was the name that caught my eye.
And secondly .. who said anything about
drinking water ?
I was thinking more along the lines of something to occasionally rinse the Grange residue from the Waterfords carafe ;-)

Hey Rosco.
I bought a filtration system for my trip this year having looked at the best system as
well. I opted for a twin canister filtration unit with a .05 micron filter and a pre filter to remove the larger stuff and dirt. It's slightly more bulky but has advantages that outweigh the single in line units.
The .05 micron will remove bacteria and other nasties such as Gardia where as it will slip thru a 1 micron filter. Not such an issue out in the deserts at present but certainly one in the mountains in Vic, NSW and many watercourses in QLD.
Unless you are continuously filtering, you must dry the filter and freeze it otherwise Bacteria may continue to live and breed within the filter Make sure you asking them about storing the filter between uses. I opted for a pre filter as this removes most of the dirt and crud to prevent the main filter clogging before time. The pre filters are inexpensive compared to the main filter.
I used it to great effect this year filtering about 500 litres of
water or so. I ran it through the existing pump in my twine shower unit. It does a good job on
bore water and will even remove tannin colouring from
creek and
waterhole water. They will not remove higher concentrations of salt. Calcium is an issue also. My unit cost me about $160 for everything including two pre filter cartridges and a mounting plate.
Cheers Mick
