Well yes dumb question but I'd rather go to a dealer without needing to ask the truly dumb question.

My hilux has aftermarket wheels and tyres, but these are different from the spare (damn). So I am trying to work out what size tyre I can fit on the wheels. The spare is a 16" with a Bridgestone Dueller on it.

The actual wheels on the lux are aftermarket alloys and the tyre markings are 31x10.50 R15 - now that tells me it is a 15" tyre, so question is, does that mean it's a 15" wheel which I'd find weird but then I can't find info that tells me if this tyre fits on what I hope is a 16" wheel so I can standardise with my spare.

Yes it's a 15inch wheel if you had a 16 it will be something like 285X75R16

Maybe a 265 x 70R16 would be closer

Theyre not 15" tyres, theyre 31" tyres on 15" rims. 31 x 10.5 R15 means 31" outside diameter, 10.5 inches wide R for Radial and 15 for 15" rims.

If your spare rim is 16" you'll need 265/75 R16 tyres which are also 31" tyres.

Ok, so are we saying 265/75 R16 tyres fit on a 15" rim or are you saying if I want to standardise I got to get rid of the 4 wheels, or the change the spare, and the respective tyre/s.

thanks

No

No

"or the change the spare, and the respective tyre/s...."
Maybe yes

Let me get this straight
You are happy with the current 4 wheels & tyres on the vehicle (with 15" rims) but want to make sure the spare is compatable with these 4 ?
If so, then Bonz gave you ther answer above.
The only thing that would stop you putting a 265/75R16 on your spare is if the spare is a skinny split rim. A 265/75R16 would most likely be too wide for this type of rim.
If this is the case, better off getting a second hand 15" rim and tyre that is the same as the current 4 on the vehicle.

Tried to keep it simple for ya, hope it helps

No anywhere you see 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 etc thats the rim size

15" rims need 15" tyres

You have to stick with R15 or change all your rims to R16.. A sixteen inch tyre wont go onto a 15 inch rim..
When talking to the shop man you want 265 width - 75 % of width as side wall depth and R15 is a 15 inch rim.... or take it in tell him to go look at it and measure it to see what will fit....
I recently found that a 305 tyre would go on my 16 inch rims which i thought impossible... they are the experts so let them work it out.... cheers

while the wheel my be of a different diameter (16" vs 15") withthe correct tyre you can still have the same overall diameter (or very close). Having said that, I'd be finding a 15" wheel and matching tyre.
