I would put a Toyota Carolla Motor in it now then. Cheap easy conversion. Did it to my old LJ50 years ago. Much better to drive after that. Regards Tony

You will get better economy, much better downhill engine braking, and better torque and most likely quieter with a corrolla eng.

Braking what is that? I have never been able to get them all to work at the same time. I am sure that suzuki had the saying it was meant to go but not to stop.

ENGINE BRAKING which was non existant in the 2 strokes. Or look arround for an lj80 which where better in most regards anyway.

Yes the motor has run the big end bearings and on taking it apart it would appear that the poor thing ran out of oil although the pump looks as if it is still pumping ok. (lots of oil in the tank) I would prefer to keep the 2 stoke engine as it has a beautiful sound and after so long it just wouldn't be right.

What? The "ring-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding" (Yes, I'm old enough to remember).
I swear the crazy frog ring tone was taken straight from the Suzi LJ :)
What a great little car. Didn't they have a SWL of 250kg?

yes that is right and total weight just over 1000kg a beautiful little car and it goes almost anywhere. The Suzuki club of Wa goes on an annual trip to
the Desert each year and there is always a 50 or an 80 on the trip Great Fun.

Dont put a Corolla motor in it.My L50 is still going strong.I have the big end bearings and other parts in my shed.If you have pulled the crank apart that is the hardest part of the job.Try a long time Suzuki agent, you will be suprised what they have in stock sometimes. We have to keep these great 4WDs going.
All the best

Hi There lj
Not wanting to hijack your thread but, I also have a lj50 that i use for a farm vehicle and I can not for the life of me get it to idle. Ive changed carbies, changed fuel pumps and even bought an electric fuel pump for it. It will drive around all day as long as you dont stop at a
gate to have to open (stops-get in drive through- stops) gets a bit frustrating.
Just wondering if any of you learned gentlemen might know of a fix apart from a transplant which For a farm hack is sort of not finaically feasable.
OH and brakes, phtt, brakes are for pussies. ;-)

A bloke that I knew years ago solved the problem by shoehorning a holden 186 into his LJ50.
Dunno how he did it, the top tank of the radiator and top hose poked through the bonnet a bit, so he cut a slot through the bonnet.
When I asked him how he connected it all up, he said that it was amazing what you could accomplish with a electric welder and oxy torch.

I also have a Lj50. Dont put a corolla motor into it. I love the sound and the nostelgia of the old 2 stroke motor. You can try Eagle One Suzuki, or the Suzuki
shop in
Perth. As for the LJ not idling
mine does it from time to time. If you pull the air cleaner off you will notice there is a needle jet in carby which has a flat blade top on it that can be removed with a flat blade screwdriver. Take it out and soak it in CLR for about a day. Also make sure your plugs are clean and set at the right
gap. That should fix the problem. If you need any more help I do have a service manual. Also try www.LJ10.com as I think you can downlaod the manual there.

HI LJ50 people.
Just a couple of notes
I want to stay with the 50 engine as then it is original and in keeping with the original vehicle. Eagle one has closed because they lost there Suzuki dealership (something to do with Suzuki's head office ) Peter and his people at Eagle one not only had a lot of experience but also showed great supported for the local Wa suzuki 4x4 club and so, it was a shame that they had to close. I am a member of the suzuki 4x4 club in Wa and have exhausted all of the club members of parts and know how. I need ether a complete motor or a complete crank with good bearings and seals. the motor has only done 90,000 km so
the block is ok and I can get over sized pistons. To the chap with the idling problem it is the carb and it is the jets blocking up. it is always a pain but once cleaned it works ok.
