They tow rating on the 76, 78 & 79 series Toyotas are rated for 3500 kg with appropriate braking systems.

The seating of 4 people in the ute will be an issue but a 5 seat Troopy maybe an option??

Have a look here for Toyota Specs

I guess you know that to use a Landcruiser/Patrol ute, it would need a conversion. Some photos here.

Would love an f250, dodge ram or similar but a bit out of my price range, towing it with a dodge nitro illegally at the moment as they only tow 2.3 ton, (wifes car) also i do small maintenance jobs 5 days a week that i will be using this tow vehicle so i am probably buggered ? ( i think i should have bought a smaller boat)

Think about those plus.. How about a 5 seater troopy (with the back seats facing forward) converted to a dual cab. A s/hand troopy could be had for a good price.

As for the Navara option, I would stick to a full sized 4wd. I'm not sure how the smaller engine and running gear of a dual cab would handle regularly towing 3 tonne with 4 blokes in it.
