anyway 1 k from home things don't sound right or feel right 100 mtr to go and im safe last corner back to 3rd engine dies clutch out away we go i think i can i think i can (get home) turn into driveway (dead) Arnold schartendigger couldn't turn the wheel just missed wife's ford made it not straight but home (phew)
i know what you thinking no fuelwell i looked 1/2 tank lights on (battery good) ok to dark to look will wait until morning
walked inside bottom lip dragging on the floor told wife my toy died be prepared to open purse strings these diesels cost a lot,

now last month i put a small filter in line from the main filter to my fuel pump and its empty
being a quick thinker no fuel a few pumps will fix thatwell after 20 min two sore palms nothing ( now i know i have fuel)
Now sitting in the car resting looking at how clean the dash is because i used wd40 instead of what is that green light for ??????? on no its the second tank i must have turned it on when i cleaned the dash (silly me) i was out of fuel

I would think that quite a few other people have done a similar thing over time, but are yet to admit to it......

Hi Len, great story enjoyed reading that this morning. I would have given you a hand at least towing it as I know jack sh#t about why it wouldnt have started except possibly do the same as you have done. I am about 5 mins away from you as we come up yeterday arvo to my sisters and stayed the night but with your expertise you solved your own problem. Glad to hear it was some thing so simple. At least now you will enjoy the rest of your weekend. Regards Steve M

Would one be allowed to say,

A night of Seniors Moments.

Bet there was a sigh of relief when you clicked to it plus the rush to tell SWMBO.

Great result.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

I've done the same thing, except I filled the main tank and was running on the second tank. Started to run out at peak hour on the Ipswitch motorway on the way home. Guys behind me not happy !
Red face...but oh the relief when I finally tweaked. After owning diesels for 20 years I felt such a fool.
There..I've admitted it again :))

Happened to me as well on my 80 series diesel. I compunded the error by calling the NRMA when I was not able to find anything strange under the bonnet.

Coasted into Peterborough. My wife even made a cuppa by the roadside while we waited for the NRMA guy to arrive.

Then it tweaked! Fuel gauge shows full (had filled up in Broken Hill), overhead gauge shows empty! Aha!!! forgot to switch tanks at Broken Hill. Doh!!!!

NRMA guy arrives, and I give him the situation and he expresses relief, because he said he had no idea what he was going to fix, as there is nothing that can "break". His boss told him to ask if the car stopping had been accompanied by a loud bang. He was happy, and I headed off out of town refreshed after an unscheduled cuppa stop, but with my tail between my legs!

It is nice to know that you don't have to shell out for the repair.

Hi Len. I once had a fairly new motor bike that wouldn't start,(It was a kick start model)made sure it had fuel then pushed it five k to the dealer only to have a mechanic come out and turn the kill switch on on the handlebar. I was just thankful some of the way was downhill.(Never did it again though) Bob.
