This week we go back to
Chain of Ponds, the was situated near the
Millbrook Reservoir,in the
Adelaide Hills.
The SA State Govt' had the whole town demolished some years ago so the
water supply to
Adelaide was not polluted.
The Morning Star Hotel was established by Oliver Philp in 1847. He had arrived in South Australia on the Lady Emma with his wife and children in 1837. He died in 1855. The hotel was then run by his son John.

Holden FJ and a Ford Consul. When Dad had the
shop there we had a bloke from
Kersbrook regularly call in driving a Mayflower.

Willem I think its to short for a Zephyr, you might be right about the
Consul, I thought it might be a Hillman.

The early Zephyrs shared the same body shape as the Consul. My Grandparents had one. Zephyr had a 6 cyl engine.
From that photo it would be near impossible to tell which it is.

Great pair of photos TNT Doug.
Only 15 minutes from where I live. Just can't remember when the buildings were there - wonder if anyone got an idea when they were removed?
Mate, IMO your EO contributions have been great since you've been back. on'ya!

Most of the buildings were removed in the late 60's early 70's.
The Morning Star remained till about 75 I think, before it too was demolished.
Enjoyed a few beers in that fine establishment as a
young fella:-)
Cheers
Glenn

JD, that's great interpretation of Doug's moniker.
TNT Doug !!
I think Doug will have to ditch Slim Dusty and take up AC/DC.
I can just see him rocking along to:
"It's TNT, Dynamite..... etc"
While Dusty covers his ears in the back.
Long live Bon Scott !!

Gone Bush, I have been surprised no one's commented on it. Every time I've read a post from Doug lately I've had a laugh, and been meaning to say something. Probably Doug wont want to come back to SA either - he'll be associated with Transport SA (TSA) LOL, cheers

I can remember the pub and some buildings from when we used to drive through on our way to the river. Man it was a long way to Millbrook in those day in the car. I can remember something my grandpa told me years ago about his grandpa or someone being the headmaster at
Millbrook school. That must have been some 70 years ago, or more.
Now this place is only a 20 minute drive from where we live.

Yeah Doug, I looked at your website the other day actually. Next time I catch up with grandpa I'll find out a bit more info. That will be at his 90th birthday in November so the 70+ years ago could be even more. Not sure what the surname was back then.

Think it is a Mk 1 Consul. My old man had one, bought it brand new, can’t remember the year. The Zephyr had a longer bonnet for the 6cyl engine and as
well the wide moulding on the boot that carries the catch was chrome on the Zephyr and painted on the Consul.
I know that bit of road quite
well, yet never knew there was a town there once, good one Doug.

It is a Consul. The Zepher Six also had chrome on the boot latch. The Consul had that part painted as you can see in the photo. We had a Zepher Six it was a 1956 model. Great machine. I learnt to drive in it. It would thrash the pants off the Holdens that were being made then.

The bloke in the Consul must be a 1957 HOON. Look at him slouching with his elbow out.
I think I should confiscate his car.
Good piccies Doug. You must have some from WA, maybe not oldies, but interesting
places you've been and seen.
cheers
