Hi again,

I remember reading on a thread once that people use their sunbeam vacum sealers to store vegtables. I have searched for the thread without success.

I have just got one and want to get some stuff organised for our trip later this month. I was wondering if you can store potatoes with it? Has anyone used it for this or have any information.

Thanks in advance

Marc

we use ours for that but we also cook them up then freeze the cooked ones and just reheat them in the pot or a frypan

Ok, so do you peel the potatoes and blanch them and then seal them?

Not having tried it before I don't know but the suggestions in the manual that came with the product indicate you would get a couple of months or more out of them.

Many moons ago we used to boil, blanch and freeze veges just using freezer bags and they lasted a while.

The vacumming process should add time to their overall life cycle.

Cram, just out of interest, we used those green vegie storage bags you can buy at supermarkets when we spent two weeks away in July. Worked excellent . We tried brocolli, cauliflower, carrots and green beans. We were still using them a week after we got home they kept that fresh. The advantage of these bags is you can open them, take some out, then just re tie the bag closed with a twist tie.

Buy a newspaper, read it, then recycle it.
Just by wrapping each piece individually in Newspaper will preserve them for quite some time, and can use the paper later for lighting your fire.
