Hi Everyone I have a patrol with a problem that Mr Nissan and others have no idea how to fix.
The problem with my 3ltr Manual truck is = Travel at 100ks at light throttle you feel a slight hiccup, then put your foot down on the accellerater no power, take foot off pedal then down again all the power is back. This can happen about every kilometre.this truck has been serviced every 5000 ks from new(2003) and has not any trouble previosly(120000ks)Any ideas would be a great help Cheers Baz

May
well be the Mass Airflow Sensor stuffing up. Be very careful. Try this
Nissan Patrol Forum and you will get a knowledgeable response.
Cheers,
Mick

Surely a fuel problem of some sort, pump, injectors, filter etc etc, shouldn't be hard to fix if you get the right people on the job. When you say Mr Nissan, who has worked on the vehicle.? If a Nissan service centre was it a senior mechanic.? Any smoke during the hiccup.?

Hi Baz
What is happening is that the turbo is overboosting, the manifold pressure goes high so the ECU goes into a safe mode - you lose power. As soon as you lift your foot off the accelerator, the ECU resets and everything is fine.
Nissan do not know how to diagnose because the ECU does not record an error message (apart from the fact Nissan are pretty useless understanding the ZD30 motor).
The most likely cause of this is the MAF sensor playing up. Have you ever cleaned or replaced the MAF? I had a 2003 GU 3.0TD and it was very noticeable the performance improvement after a clean.
Cheers
Captain

I agree with previous replies..
Have you got an after market air filter in it or standard??? MAF Sensor is the likely culprit...replace it in a hurry.
If you have anything other than an original air filter in it, replace it with as
well ASAP.

we have had similar problems.....it was with the fly throttle thingy...some sensor comes lose and loses connection....we have the engine light come on and have to pull over, turn car off and start it again.....had it to the mechanic and he has reset computer (but we did too and it slowed it down...)
we were told the mass air flow but it wasnt the case....

Hi Baz,
Hmm... not the usual suspect eh.
I still think its do to with the ECU thinking its overboosting, its the exact same type of symptom. Perhaps the pressure sensor is faulty? Your 16 psi is about right, but if the sensor is faulty and it "thinks" its say 25 psi, then you will get the exact symptoms you have, plus no error coded to show for it. Might pay to borrw a pressure sensor and see if it makes the difference.
Cheers

Touche (or whatever that word is!!! hahaha).
But, at least with a cracked chassis, you see the problem and get it fixed....done.....finished (hopefully!!!).
With these damn air mass sensors and egr's and throttle sensors ad infinitim there are so many different possibilities. You change one thing, hoping that that is what's causing the problem, only to find out a few days later (cos it's intermittent) that you've spent $300- on a new sensor, but the problem persists.
No, give me a cracked chassis any day (
well, maybe not really!!! hahaha).

Hi Baz,
Ok, looks like you have replaced the correct sensor. So far it looks like the electrics are working, time to move onto the mechanicals.
This sensor indirectly operates the diaphragm that moves the vanes on the turbo. If this diaphragm is not working correctly (or not receiving vacuum) then you still get the same symptoms. If you look at the turbo, you will see the diaphragm actuator has a small tube receiving vacuum to operate it. There could be any number of issues with this, blocked vacuum line, seized solenoid, seized diaphragm, seized turbo vanes etc... I would be checking that this diaphragm is moving to control boost pressure.
Cheers
