My little brother pulled the handbrake too hard and it disconnected the cable i think as the lever has gone loose, i cant seem to locate the cable upon inspection, my question is; I leave for a big trip in a week, and work a lot in that week is this a simple enough job to do in an hour or so or should i just take it in to my mechanic and get him to do it?

Any help/pics are greatly appreciated

Cheers

Mike

i think it is located near the trans case underneath, but dont quote me on it, i recall a friend doing something like this and it was around that area and that was years ago. thought it was a strange place for it thats why i recall it now.

G'day ... Don't know if it helps but .. on my GQ (GY60 '95 series) & they don't seem to change too much .. The break drum is located in the drive chain immediately in front of the front universal. Referring to the manual, the process is rather complex, starting with uncoupling the rear universal joint & on it goes for a page or so. Not a quick job I feel, with lots of opportunity for 'Murphy' to interfere.

You might get info from the Forum at patrol4x4.com

good luck .. G

Hi Mike,

The handbrake is on the transmission not the wheels and, from memory, I think it is quite an involved process to get at it. As time is a problem for you, I would have it done by a pro if the problem is at the drum end.

If the problem is at the brake handle end you have to remove the centre console and access the the cable from there, not quite as involved as the drum end but more than an hours work for a novice.

But its also a great opportunity to recover all those odd and sods that fall into the crevices and get lost underneath the console. I made/recovered $10 last time i did this :))))

If the cable has snapped then you will need to access both ends. With the combined time factor that requires.

Thank you all for your replies, i think i will take it to my mechanic and get him to do it as time is a factor, i have changed one in a VL commodore and was a lot easier than this sounds.

Thanks again,

Mike
