Been browsing the EPA(qld) website which states that the Palmer Goldfields are closed till further notice. Does this mean I can still get to
Maytown via Whites
creek road from Mulligan Highway? I am aware that the track from Palmerville HS to
Maytown is closed and has been for a few years.

Evidently there is some issue with the road being gazetted and there are currently court proceedings. This could obviously cause a big insurance problem as the road is currently not gazetted and some policies may not cover mishaps in this situation.
Cheers

I was there with a group of 5 vehicles two weeks ago.
The road south from
Laura is open as is the road east from Highway turnoff south of
Palmer River Roadhouse.
Road is gazetted,
Maytown is a Townshiip reserve and as such has the right of public access at all times.
There is a letter from Qld Gov Dept (cant remember which one) at
Maytown which clearly sets this out.
Station owners would like to see roads closed, but no dice.
There are some very intimidating signs put up by station and
mine owners, but they have no legal standing.

Thanks guys. Have just talked to QPW at
Cairns and
Atherton, and have decided I will
camp somewhere else for the night. There is a court case in progress against the owner of the lease land on which the road now encroaches. Cheers
