I've recently bought a 1989 Toyota 4Runner (RN130). There are some buttons that I don't know what they do. The previous owner didn't know either and there is no user manual.

The buttons are on the dash, to the right hand side of the steering wheel column. There is a small red button, directly below that is a larger green button. Below that is a knob with a bulb symbol which I guess would be the height of the headlight beam? Finally to the left of these is a red button with an amber light and a red light above it.

Also, the rear reg plate lights don't work, although the reg plate is attached further down to the bumper I'd like to get them working. Have changed the bulbs with no success. Wonder if it's the fuse? Does anyone know which fuse is responsible?

Finally, does anyone know where I could get a user manual from? Have looked on eBay and Google searches with no success.

Help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Going by my 4Runner (LN130R) which is a 92 model diesel, I would say the buttons are not genuine fitment. The knob is the instrument light rheostat for dimming your dash lights - genuine. Is yours an RV6, SR5, etc? If so then there may have been some other switches there originally, like suspension stiffness (don't know how it worked, or if it ever did) but those ones are definitely not originals. Have you got a better piccie?

As for a manual, buy the Max Ellery one. They have the best wiring diagrams, which are pretty handy for 4Runner owners.

And the number plate lights - going by my manual the # plate light and tail lights are on the same 15A fuse. If tail lights are OK check the wiring inside the tailgate as all the insulation on the wiring in mine has gone hard. Some wires cracked and were not connected. I'm about to rewire my entire tailgate from inside the body.

By the way, try this link and this one. Lots of info, particularly for if your back window packs up.

HI , there standard switches supplied by Tandy or Jaycar --- NOT Toymota ---

best bet would be to pop them out and trace the wires manually

Agree with those that said to manually back track the wiring from switch to whatever they are attached to (if anything - may have been removed in the past). One may be for driving lights - if fitted.
User manual or repair manual? By user manual do you mean the one that came with the vehicle when new? If so then no idea where to source one. As fas as repair manual goes try any auto shop - Super Cheap, Auto One etc , bookshops such as Dymocks, Angus & Robertson etc, - even K Mart and Big W may have one.
Once you get the repair book you'll be able to fix tail lights. Very handy thing to have.

The green one is for the ejector seat, the top red one is for the front machine guns and the other red one is to release the oil slick.

Seriously they look like after market fitments for other accessories, just trace the wires and find out where they go to.
