Hi all, the 2,000km mark has been reached by Michael
Mitchell. He carried his pack into the town of
Nebo, QLD three of days ago and met up with the Jackaroo support vehicle towing the great Tru Blu Campetrailer. He has already progressed a futher 80 km south but is getting driven back to
Nebo tomorrow morning to visit the students at the Primary School and later attending a fund raising dinner in the
Nebo Pub. The website www.thegreatcancerwalk.com.au has all the info about Michael's trek to raise funds for The Cancer Council
Cheers, Marg (Mitch's Wife)

How can going on a walk assist cancer sufferers? All the money in the world can't prevent someone getting it or cure anyone that has it. Govt. and private equity already pour tons of money into research and health
services, community Service Groups are involved in on-going fund rasing for one thing and another including homeless children, sick children, homeless dogs and cats, retired greyhounds and race horses and so on and on. Unfortunately many charities use 'collection agencies' to raise money. Most if not all (those that aren't volunteers) receive a proportion of what they collect. How noble and humanitarian is that? Do I sound a bit cynical - I AM !!!

You are a dispicable scourge on the human race.
I know Michael personally and know the sacrifices he has made to raise this money, without a sceric of personal benefit.
And you come on here and mock him. It doesn't get much lower than that.
Jim.

Hi!
Anja here, Steve's beloved.
DIO's post upset me. I know I should ignore undue cynicism -- but sometimes I just can't.
I hope he'll never get in a situation where he'd have to rely on friends, partners, companions, total strangers
I strongly believe in KARMA!

Yep, you ARE cynical. I do not donate to everyone – rather choose carefully to whom donate. But cancer research is one that I always donate to. Firstly not everyone with cancer prematurely die today and secondly they must research to improve situation or hopefully eliminate cancer altogether. I wish that no one from your family ever got such hopeless disease.

Marg, I apologise for at least one of the replies below. I am in awe of Michaels efforts, and I wish both of you
well.
Many Australians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lives.
When I was younger it was almost a death sentence.
Thanks to people like Michael, and many many others, it no longer is.
How anyone with half a brain could post such insensitive rubbish is beyond my imagination. I know it's a public
forum, but please know that few here would not wish Michael
well.

Marg,
as the daughter of two cancer survivors, I really appreciate people like Michael and all people who strive to raise funds to not only find cures and better treatment, but also aid for families, provide counselling
services, increase awareness, develop educational programs, there is so much to it.
Cancer doesn't care who it affects but thank God there are people out there that care and who strive to make a difference.
Hats off to Michael, it's a great effort.
Lyn

DIO, have you had someone close to you affected by this terrible and debilitating disease? I suspect not. Any effort by anyone to raise money or even awareness of cancer related disease's deserve every bit of support they can get.
Comments like yours are totally out of line. In a perfect world government's would supply the endless amount of money for research, etc. The world isn't perfect and a lot of medical research is funded only by donations and funds raised by people such as Michael.
More money is always needed for even more research. Does research produce results ? YES without a doubt. How many $$$ is extending someones life worth? In my situation at the moment it would have most definately been priceless.
My dad died last week as a result of complications with his treatment for cancer. He caught pnuemonia after having a stem cell transplant, which we found out while he was in ICU had been successful.
On a brighter note my wife gave birth today to our second son, which my dad couldn't wait for.

To Mogul...We are so sorry to hear the news of your dad's passing but so thrilled to hear of your new son's birth! Congratulations to you all. At such an intense time for you, we really appreciate you taking the time to support The Great Australia Cancer Bush Walk!
To everyone else who has sent replies supporting Michael's efforts, a huge thank you! Whilst not wishing DIO any misfortune, I think you have all established that people like him are
well and truly in the minority...thank goodness.
Feel free to spread the word to your family, friends and work colleagues!
Donations can be made online at www.thegreatcancerwalk.com.au
We can't thank you all enough! Regards, Marg (& Michael)

Michael,
Thank you for the kind words.
For the funeral we asked that instead of people sending flowers that they make a donation to the Myloma Foundation instead. Donations so far have reached just over $1,000, my wife and I through our company have decided that we will match dollar for dollar as a donation. It is only a small drop in the ocean for what is needed but many small drops can add up to a river.
I wish you all the very best in what you are doing, you are truly a great aussie and deserve all the support you can get.
