To all who have responded, thanks for the input, all taken on board.
Rang Repco yesterday & received the expected...
The bloke that served you, he's on his day off, nobody knows anything about it!!! I'll have to ring him at home... Can I call you back??? 1730hrs. Mate, the Hayman Reese warranty guy is in Mackay (Qld) at the moment, won't be back blah blah doesn't seem to think it's much of an issue, so just come in & we'll give you another one.
At present I'm thinking I'll go & get my old damaged hitch from Repco & hand it over to the RACQ/current affair, who ever can rattle the bleep can louder than me as I feel that the response from Repco & Hayman Reese is just unacceptable.
If anyone can expand on that it will be
well received, thank you.
Cheers TG.

yes. this is a product safety issue that is likely to not be confined to the one example... probably an issue that would apply to the batch at best or the entire build.

Hi Ron.
The answer to your question is yes!!!!! LoL
Look at it from this perspective!!! I'm ploughing down the highway with the boat hooked up. You're coming from the opposite direction. Just before we pass I hit a bump that is the final straw for my tow ball tongue, the trailer parts company from my truck but not completely, the safety chain is doing the job...
Well sort of, now I've got a 1 ton pendulum trying to swing me all over the joint I can't hold it on my side of the road & cross over into your path doing about 80Kmh, you might have the missus & kids on board......... Not a very pretty picture aye????????
Cheers TG.

In your original post you did not indicate that this is a Hayman Reese product, just that it fits into their receiver.
In this post, there is a suggestion that it is a Hayman Reese branded product:
' the Hayman Reese warranty guy is in Mackay (Qld) at the moment, won't be back blah blah doesn't seem to think it's much of an issue, so just come in & we'll give you another one.'
Is it a hayman Reece product or a Repco 'no name'?
If it is Hayman Reece, I'd be taking it up with them. With their name on the line, I'm sure they would like the opportunity to investigate this properly. If there is a fault, I'd think they will address it, not just for you, but for the whole batch.

Hi Norm.
When I first brought the item I now recall it had HR all over the box I don't recall seeing "made in China" but that's a moot point.
The object of the exercise is to make someone!! Be it HR or Repco responsible, I don't feel it is incumbent on me to approach HR for a response, that's Repco's responsibility as HR are their supplier, in any case it would be a futile exercise because as I've stated the Repco guy received a less than ordinary response from the HR warranty guy, so what would I get?????

If we are talking about the tongues in the Repco Father's Day catalogue...then they ARE Hayman Reese - how do I know? I bought one of the 300mm ones. I don't understand what you are going on about Repco for ...the product is Hayman Reese and if it is a wider problem then it is encumbent on the manufacturer and not the retailer to initiate the recall.

Theres some kinda Govt authority can force them to issue a safety recall if it is a vehicle safety defect issue which tow bar is - take it too the RACQ or whoever - with the documentation of other simlar cases and have them get the relevant govt authority to force a product safety recall.
The travelling publics are goint to be at risk over this - time to act - it's bigger issue than just a free replacement draw bar.
Cheers

Flywest I'm afraid the safety issue is a point being missed by some, it doesn't matter a tinkers cuss who made it or who sold it what matters is to find out if it's a one off or a wider issue in the shortest time frame possible. I shudder to think what may have happened had I not noticed the irregularity, I've seen enough mangled bodies as it is.
Cheers TG.
