Hi all,
I am looking at getting a new Patrol ute. There is only a 3.0l CRD available as an engine. I am aware of problems with the earlier engines. I would be interested with any feedback on the new engines. I have tried the put a post on the Patrol
forum but registering has been disabled.

Seems reasonable rmb , haven't seen any issues with it here
or on the original Patrol
forum site.
Have seen a couple of positive comments from onwers of the
manual crd patrol which uses the same higher torque version of that engine which the cab chassis also uses.

Up to 150000ks I have heard of no bad reports, just dont expect it to last like the 6s.

I did some research into this before buying
mine, and the consensus seems to be that the earlier problems have been largely sorted. There've been strong recommendations to use genuine filters and to check often for oil deposits in the intake systems - this may be an early
warning sign of potential failure.
Mine's fine so far (and an adequate donk for my uses), although it's early k's yet.
On a somewhat related topic, does anyone know how/where to get hold of the
shop manual for the current 3L CRTD Patrol ? The electronic version would be fine.

Not sure what your intended use is but we received 2 new 3L patrol trays recently for work & the 1st thing we noticed was how slow off the mark they were. The driver who delivered them said "I hope you don't want to drive them up any hills" as he had trouble getting them up the steep ramp of the truck! Once the revs are right up they are not too bad in 1st & 2nd but very sluggish in the top gears. The next problem was the poor brakes, almost overshooting the depot.
Our trays are
well loaded & when towing 1 tonne + are bordering on inadequate. It's unfortunate they don't put a decent engine in the Patrol at the moment.
Cheers Craig..........

You would think that the UD truck range would have a suitable engine. We have a 240hp UD at work and even in a truck weighing 5.5 ton empty it absotutely flies. On the steep climb from
Sofala up to wattle flat it will av 95 to 100. It would make a great Patrol engine. LOL.
