Coles Crossing
This track is about to be closed down by the local council and will not be reopened.
The main reason for this is the continued abuse of this road.
The general feeling is that the use of 4wds on this track has degraded it to a point where the council is not prepared to fix or even consider fixing it.
There is also concern about legal action being taken against council because some people dont know when they should stop and turn around due to poor conditions.
Some people are then seeking compensation when they sink/damage their vehicles.
I would just like to say thanks to all the people that think thrashing their 4wds through this track is cool or fun or something.
It is because of the juvenile actions of people/persons that think this way that this track will be closed as of Saturday 23rd of August 2008.

rYes and believe it or not it makes perfect ammunition for the anti-4wd fraternity. Give the boys a toy and look what happens.

It makes good copy, and is easily defensible by bureacrats who are trying to get a minority off their backs or avoid some niggling responsibility.
Of course there are real idiots about that only serve to help them.

We we going to pass through on Sunday, there was a
road closed sign at both ends. We turned around and went around, I heard Monday some one else ignored the
sign and gut thier newish Patrol stuck up to the belt line moulds in the mud and another vehicle was also stuck trying to recover the first.
Perhaps they should pay the penalty and not us who do the right thingl... It only takes a couple of idiots to ruin it for everyone.

Any decent public track left open (that is close to a major
population centre) will eventually be closed due to overuse and/or abuse. Inevitable these days with so many 4x4s and so many lawsuits.

I'll just add that the lawsuits and the 4x4s are unrelated. Both contribute to closures or extra rules and regulations.

Couldn't agree more Unko. Last time I had a look, about 18 months ago it was a bloody shambles. Pity cos it was a good drive.
Krakka.
Trail bikes in this area have also a lot to answer for.
