Hi there,
I have a series 11 Disco TD5. I had the
water pump replaced last week and since then I have noticed a noise that I had not heard before coming from the engine bay.
Spoke briefly with someone and they said it could be a belt?
I can't get anyone to look at till tomorrow but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Hi Cram. Was the belt replaced with the new pump? Check the belt tension. If overtight or too loose it can make a noise. Overtight can be bearing noise, loose will be belt flap or squeal. Belt flap sometimes sounds like the belt is wet. I was taught as an apprentice that as a rule of thumb, belt deflection should be around 3/8 inch per foot of belt run with moderate finger pressure (bit hard to explain). Never use belt dressings on the belt, i.e. beltgrip, etc - if you need to there is a problem with the drive.
Cheers, Louie

Hi Cram. You should ask that question on aulro.com as there's nothing they don't know about Landies there.
Cheers.
Alan.

Cram,
easy way to check if it is the belt is to put a hose on and dribble so
water on it and if the noise stops it's the belt.

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.
I have had the issue checked out and it seems to have been the fan belt and it is now hopefully sorted.
thanks again
