We have decided to revisit Fraser Island in the October school hols. I understand the Qld and NSW hols overlap in the first week so I was planning to arrive on Fraser about the 3rd or 4th of Oct.
I was thinking rather than just run up the coast or the
New England I would take a couple of extra days and head a bit further west to take in some different scenery.
Can anyone suggest
places to see north of Dubbo or Coonabarabran? We have been through the Warrumbungles more than once and have also seen Mt Kaputar so we know what their is there. What about the Pilliga or up around
Ashford, anything to see or do? Doesn't have to be much but I would hate to get back and have someone say "Did you see........?".
Thanks for your help, I know it will be good.

Possible route from Gunnedah is over to
Manilla and then north up through
Bingara ,Inverell,
Ashford, Texas, Inglewood, Millmerran,
Dalby Kingaroy, over to coast.
As stated, McIntyre Gorge is worth a visit as is the
limestone caves (if they are your thing - walk in but dark tunnels need good torch).
Could go via
Bunya Mountains. Up from Jondaryan side and down over to the Kingaroy side. (spectacular scenery)
another detour would be come up through
Dunedoo and Coolah and go up to Coolah Tops (nice area - deadend road) before going on to Gunnedah
Have a great which ever way you go. Like yourself I always like to take some other road between A and B and keep the shortest for lack of time.

sundown national park near
stanthorpe. not alot to see in there, but is peaceful
camping away from the rat race, trailers not a good idea for in there though if you have one.
