G'Day,
Hope someone can answer this.
I have Garmin maps on CD and SD card to suit SWMBO's streetpilot.
We are looking at purchasing a Garmin Edge 705 and wonder if it is possible to copy the maps from either the SD card or CD onto a microSD card so it will fit the Edge?
Just looking at saving the $240 price for the maps.
Any help appreciated
Regards
Rolande

Basemap: Built-in routable Pacific Autoroute basemap.
Accepts downloadable map detail from Garmin PC-based MapSource® City Navigator/Select CD-ROMs (Optional for other Countries). Or pre-loaded MicroSD cards.
But I think if your trying to install maps you already have then you would be required to obtain a 25 digit code from Garmin, I see this is a bike type gps, why note get a Garmin Quest that already has City Navigator installed,.... unless tou want the heart rate monitor,
There bike mounts for the quest ,
Handlebar bike mount to suit the Garmin Quest. GPS snaps in, and the mount will attach to a handlebar up to 1" in diameter. Garmin Part Number: 010-10507-00

Depending on what he wants it for Doug, the 705 is suited better to MTB and/or cycling as it comes with both/either the HR monitor and/or Cadence/Speed together with some pretty fancy workout features....invaluable for keen cyclists.
I would guess that it will be used on a bike if he has made a decision for a relatively expensive 705.

G'Day Andrew and Doug,
Yep, SWMBO wants it for her bike training, MTB and Road.
The maps were the bonus to make certain she doesn't get lost when we are away from home and she is riding solo.
Have a mapsource CD with the unlock code, but don't know how to transfer this to a microSD for the 705.
Alternately, can I do a direct copy from SD to microSD?
Thoughts appreciated

Hi Rolande,
did you get the CD with 2 unlock codes or only one, pre City Navigator V7 they gave you 2 unlock codes unless you brought the SD type
If you brought it on the microSd card you could just change it over , also the maps have come down in price the upgrade is only $99 which might be an option unless it has to be installed onto the SD card only.
Might need more details or call Garmin

G'Day,
We originally purchase a streetpilot C310 which came with a SD card pre-loaded and a CD with a single unlock code, (for the CD only).
They currently ask $240 for maps to go with the 705.
Do you think I could take the CD in and ask for an upgrade price, and while at it, download it to microSD?

Rolande, I would have thought you can copy the map files from SD card to computer then back to MicroSD card, just lke transferring a file from a floppy to a puter then back to a floppy, unless they are embedded in the card memory or something? You will need a card reader though, unless your puter has a built in one.

I have a C320 street pilot and my son-in-law also has the same unit. I download an update of the maps on
mine and then removed the the mem card and placed it in his C320 and it came up with a message to the effect that the maps were not valid on that GPS. I use Mapsource on a laptop and when I plug different Garmin GPS's into the laptop Mapsource will only display the map detail associated with that particular GPS. I think it is all controlled by the GPS serial number which then links to the unlock codes.
