Last night some low life stole my GPS car navigator and wireless tyre display from my vehicle. The latter won't be any use without the sender units on the tyres!

Anyway, not covered by comprehensive car policy as items not individually specified, and not covered by house contents as vehicle not within property.
Just a heads up for people who might think their items are covered.

Hi Mal

Sorry to here some Scum Bag did that, I read recently that G P S
gear is the most popular stuff to knock off from Vehicles, being
that they get can sell them very quick, It's probably sitting on a
display shelf at Cash Converters or some Pawn Shop, might pay
to check them out, no harm trying.

Cheers

Join the club, mine was in the glove box however they had visualised the window mount and put 2 & 2 together. Not a silly idea but the GPS units should be trackable and this would put an end to the thousands of thefts of these types of devices.

trackable... right. The units for vehicles to make the vehicles trackable are in the '000s. The GPS unit is a receiver only, not a sender.

Not quite true Vivid, there is technology available like the device discussed on the forums here that lets friends track your journey on the Internet, something mate it's called .? It's a way off but there are varuious ways these devices could be disabled if stolen and I'm just bouncing the ideas around.

hey I like your website...

Why not have a password or pin number to access it. That shouldn't cost too much to have in there.

Just a tip to one and all, clean your screen to prevent theft, theives look for the ring left on the windscreen and that tells them there's a gps in the car!!!! oh also take it with you after you clean the screen!!!!

Best bet is for your home address on your GPS - just set it to the next street from your house - dont put in a specific house number ..... or even a vacant block

and for track notes --- i back mine up all the time from my laptop ( GPS) to my main computer and to dvd - always do this after a trip away ..... and a good habbit to get into

Mal,
Did your vehicle have an alarm. We rarely use our LC except when towing the van/touring so leave the suction cup on the screen and also leave the Van camera screen worth $380 or so connected to the rear vision mirror.

The Tom Tom goes under the seat. would have trouble asking the wife to carry the Tom Tom and Camera screen in her handbag. Perhaps we need an incar safe.

Yeah, styling not one of their big points, but I need something a bit smaller and apparently more secure.

Mal,Sorry to read your experience. Hope you catch the bugger.
Had an e-mail the other day, it went something like this: Cost of GPS $300. Cost of broken window $200. Time spent at the cop station, 1 hour. The cost to take the stupid thing with you..PRICELESS.
Sorry mate, no offence intended!

Look at the newest thread on GPS units for members This one, a GARMIN requires a pin no to make it work. Doesnt stop them from pinching it and biffing it when it wont work tho. Also if your details are on the card they may be able to access that on a PC
