Can anyone help me, I have tried to cook bread in my cobb, and the bottom burnt terribly. What can I do to stop this happening?

Try using only five or six heat beads. Also put a trivet or spacers between the bottom of the bread tin and the normal plate (ie get the tin off the hot plate. Also make sure the beads are evenly spaced in the basket and not heaped directly under the tin.
I use two lengths of stainless sqaure rod about 8mm x 8mm and 10cm long to prop the bread tin up off the hotplate. You can see them under the bread tin in the photo.
Cheers Mick

Thanks Mick, I probably used too many heat beads, but I did use a trivet. Will keep trying till I get it right

Kero and Berni,

We have used a Cobb Premier for about a year, it goes everywhere with us, one of the first things packed in the CT.

We have had no trouble with the beads going out during cooking, the only thing I can think of is, you must let the heat beads really burn down until they are all a uniform ash grey colour, if you start cooking with them half black and half grey, then yes they probably will suffocate and die. We have found that the quality of the heat bead is very important to the cooking process, buy the best one's you can, same thing with the fire-lighters.

As for the bread I have bread mix, cake mix, and damper mixes and they all come out really good, (after a little practise) and yes to stop the burning on the base of the bread, use a trivet, egg rings, or even small empty tuna tins, they all seem to work.

Wait until you try a roast lamb or beef, yummo.

Happy cooking.

Not sure how you lite your heat beads, but we sit ours in the basket over a gas stove for a few minutes untill the larger flame dies back and the beads have a good coating of grey.
